And, of course, the time she visited Santa

She seems very happy in all her careers, except when she had to be with Santa. 🤣

I've made enough progress with the boys that it is time to do formal introductions.

Formally introducing Davy Jones....

Davy is the more confident of the two. He is a little bigger as well. Fully mature I am going to say he will be about the size Branch was. I love those feet of his, the heavy feathering. All my girls have feathered feet, some lightly feathered though so he will definitely help them in that department. Yes his wattles are mulberry colored. They are not as bright in person, the flash makes them appear more red. It's ok though, that comb is still nice and black so I will forgive it.

Now, having him outside in the daylight I have to wonder. I do not think he is a black silkie. I fully believe he is a blue boy. On the darker side of blue but blue instead of black. If he is I have hit the jackpot with him. If I crossed him on my 2 solid black girls half their chicks should be blue and half black. If I kept a blue daughter and crossed back to him I have a chance for splash silkies. If I crossed him with Poppet instead of the black/gold color chicks she threw with Branch I can get more chicks of Poppets coloring.

I want to ask what kind of pot your looking for so I can possibly help, but I can't. I don't have any current pictures of my chickens. I can talk more when I do. :lau
😁
My dream pot is a 5 qt (4-6) stainless steel pot with a glass straining lid and metal or metal/ silicone handles. Bonus points if the lid locks in place and or the pot is full clad vs just the bottom. And well under $100.00
Its a tough find. This is at the top of my list at the moment: https://a.co/d/bsuwRwb

Barbosa, or Bosa for short is still very unsure of me. These pictures do not do him justice. He is smaller and more compact then his brother. He is also black no question. Again lovely foot feathering, and he is bearded. Can we also take a moment to appreciate those earlobes. That is not a trick of the camera, they are as blue in person. Bluer actually. In the coop I thought yesterday he had gold in his hackles. Outside in the light it is stray silver feathering. He reminds me of @Ponypoor Clyde just not frizzled. I was on the fence on taking both boys, I now owe my brother and his enabling a debt of gratitude for putting the idea in my head.

I have plans and goals this year with the silkies. Looking at both boys in the daylight I am tweaking them in my head. Connecting to Russ's stall a pen is going to be built. Originally I was going to house all 7 girls in it with both boys. Now I want it split down the middle. The divider does not need to be super tall, just tall enough that they cannot hop or fly over it. I want the 2 black pullets and Poppet in with Davy. Barbosa I want to put in with the 2 partridge pullets and the 2 black pullets with gold leakage.

George will get to keep all of the other girls as his and his alone. They have accepted him as their flock rooster now.

If she goes broody this time, I might try to break her... I don't know for sure. She's still so young. We're definitely not introducing any new chicks yet, we don't have the space.

We don't have a wire dog crate, or anything to use as a broody jail, really. Though we might be able to find one cheap enough. So I'll keep an eye on sales around here.

IF she goes broody and I don't have the means to break her myself, is there anything I can do to help her stay healthy? I've read scrambled eggs are great to feed broodies. I've been reading a couple articles to prepare myself.
I have never used a crate, I just toss mine out of the coop every chance i can, but I don't mind mine taking the break. If you know everyone is done laying for the day you can block off the nest boxes or close the coop.

They are both gorgeous - but I am totally won over by the blue ear lobes and the slightly crazed expression of Barbosa.
