Yesterday was my first day off this month. Really glad that I won't be working such a stretch again soon. Eighteen days with only 1 day off is too many!
Last week Cassia decided to try out crowing, I told her that while she had a rather good and lovely crow she was a hen and it was better if she focused on laying eggs instead.

Now for my sad news. Ruca passed away in the dark hours between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. We had 14 years together, she was around 18. Rest in peace beautiful dinosaur. 2007-4/3/2025

Thing about baby chicks is, if they get quiet all of a sudden, they’re up to something!

Ruca was beautiful, I really admired that window picture when you first posted it. What a wonderful, interesting companion! I'm very sorry for your loss.

She's fine as far as I know. She's always been a low rider. I have no idea why that is other than that she has some kind of defect. It's caused egg issues in the past but not this year. She's also got a ton of butt fluff, I haven't bothered measuring it but I think it makes her look really low too.

Another Day of Firsts

It was a big day for the little ladies!

First, dirt arrived!

They wanted nothing to do with it until I adorned it with meal worms.

Second they were allowed free flight time and chose to roost on Mr. Hand! So wonderful!

Ahhhhh! So sweet! They are really growing, and look at that nice tail growing in, love it!

Oh they are tiny! When o first bought them home I was terrified I might harm them they were so tiny! Little farts could fly though and I was constantly going after them. Luckily they enjoyed snuggling to keep warm.

Whohoo ACT results came in late last night. Rosie took it for the 2nd time 2 weeks ago. First time around she got a composite score of 16. This time the composite score is 20. 20 is good enough for a few of the colleges she is looking into. She is taking it 2 more times in the next year. Her guidance counselor told her 21 is the magic number but the higher she can get it the better the scholarships available to her.

She also has a new interest beside forensics. A Morehead State University rep has been to the high school a few times this year and she talked to them. She found out they have a Aeronautics program. My child is now talking about building and designing air planes or spaceships.

I am ok with this school. I like it actually. Morehead is about a hour and a half to a hour and 45 minutes away. This one would give the the "going off to college" experience that she needs but still she is close to home if a emergency happened.

As a mom myself I was in favor of any college or uni where students weren't wasting time on some frivolous protests but spending valuable time (& tuition/scholarship $$$) wisely by actually learning something
