Never doubt the abilities of hawks. Here’s an interesting observation on the smarts of a Coopers Hawk adapting to the urban environment in New Jersey, using crosswalk sound cues and the line of cars as cover to hunt a certain spot across the street.

Beautiful bird... but NOT in our yard! TG for our neighborhood Crows that chase off intruding hawks, egrets, water fowl!

Please tell me my eyes are just tired and my sweet baby Posy isn't getting brown shoulders and a rooster tail...
Been fighting a migraine and hubby said he didn't see any red feathers and boys have red feathers...
Barnevelder or Wyandotte mix? ~ really pretty ❣️
My guess if the tail curves downward & they're growing in at different lengths, & the tail feather tips are more pointy rather than rounded... perhaps a male?

When I opened the coop this morning, I found Blanche had passed. She had been up on the roost last night. She had been a little off for a bit, then perked up, then gone. Also reproduction issues: soft shell here and there. She would have been 4 end of the month, along with Cheetah, Nellie, and PITA.

I am so very sorry for your loss. She was beautiful, and I know she felt well loved. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs:hugs

Heaven help me, what the *#@##^ have I done??

So our power went out at 4am yesterday, and we were having trouble with our generator. So after we took care of the animals we went to store since we needed some more supplies to put the new netting over the runs, and I couldn’t work anyway until we had power and internet. Of course we ended up needing something at TSC.

I had sworn I was not getting any more chicks this year. That the 15 I ended up with was enough. That there was only ONE breed I would get if I saw it, and ONLY if it was sexed pullets.:barnie:oops:

Can you guess what these are?? And somehow I ended up getting 5 instead of just 4.

Tried putting them under a hen that had been broody for about 4 weeks. Failure in the first attempt, so they are back in the brooder. Don’t know if I will try again tomorrow, or see if Indifo wants to take them since she has been acting like her chicks are old enough and don’t need her anymore. Had been trying to get back in the mini coop where she raised them, like she is broody again already.

She taught them to roost Thursday night.

Yes, that is one under her wing and one on top of her. :lau
