So since we have heard silkies like to sleep in “piles” instead of on roosts, Plus have so many young chicks right now, we have made a few upgrades to the coop. Here is a pic of a huge shelf, with a rim around it to hold some sand and a ramp for getting up and down. The ramp is hinged for when I need to get under the shelf for anything.

We also put some narrow strips of plywood on some of the 2x4s that frame the walls. You can see one of them up above the big shelf.

Some of the larger chicks took advantage of the big shelf to check out the nest boxes. I think there were six of them in one box at the same time. :lau

My silkies like to get up high with the rest if they can. But I rejigged the roosts to ledges at about 24” and 29” so the don’t have far to fly down, they use steps to hop flap up, but fly down.

If they can get up high they will the brats!

Specifically the door, if I'm not mistaken.

You should rig something up that goes down during the night so they go to bed super high, and they wake up right on the ground.

No corn goes to waste! :old
I gave the ear of corn 🌽 to my Dakota (she loves corn)
$.50 cents an ear at Walmart, so I bought 20 today.
Canned corn is $.84 cents per can so I bought 12 of them.
I left the store, got all the way to my car and thought “didn’t I go there for something else?” 🤔 oh yeah, food for myself. 🤦‍♂️

Eat some mealworms.

Wow. Mine aren’t anywhere close to ripe yet!
Greenhouse!
I would say they were in a greenhouse prior to Jenn planting. Those berries look soooo good!
Yes! It was very tasty, like a grape-blueberry.
Wonderful!!

Oooohh, they fruited this year?!!!?? Did you try one? I'm curious if you were able to get a berry before the chooks devoured them.
I did! It was tasty and then the chickens got the other ripe ones. I have a few more ripening so hopefully I can have another haha.
