After a failed attempt Friday night, Coco seems to have adopted the lavs! In hindsight, I don’t think she pushed any out from under her. I think it was warm enough that they wandered out and in to a pile, and since they weren’t making a distress peep she didn’t notice. And when she was frantically trying to get out of the mini coop the next day it wasn’t to get back to her nest box, she was looking for her chicks.

I noticed yesterday and today that she was hanging around the bantams, doing her little tut tut tut. And when I gave her a BSFL, she tried to tidbit it to them. Plus, when I took out one of the lavs, and it started peeping really loud, she started scratching around in the sand and then was setting. So I took a chance and put her in their brooder tote with them. She went over and tried to sit on them while they were at the feeder, almost knocking over both the food and water. So out to the mini coop they all went. Where she immediately started raking g food out of the feeder and calling them over.

She seemed determined to raise them, and they were just as determined to eat and run around in the top portion of the coop. But sure enough, when it got late enough and cold enough she finally managed to gather them under her. I have been out several times to check and they were all still there. Hopefully she has smooshed any of them, she is a large bird. But since they are almost a week old I think they will be ok.

Hopefully will be able to get some pics tomorrow

My birds are tucked away in bed (in the coop) I counted them three times to make sure they were safe.
The littles are in a cuddle puddle and I imagine they’re all there.
I have a hard time keeping up with them all, so I have no idea how Kelly does it. That’s a lot of animals for her to tuck in at night! :old :idunno
Lot of screaming and swearing. They ignore me of course. The horses are secretly laughing I am sure.

It help that I can break them up in groups: the Summer House group with Mr P and his harem.

Then once I get the rest into the Hen Houses I can split them up and close the sliding door between HH-A and B.

Breaks them down into easy counting groups. 11 for Mr P’s gaggle, then count up the rest for a total of 45 😁👍

But, yep I usually count at least 3 times as they just won’t sit still in the winter it’s much easier to count them as they roost at 5pm, now it’s not dark till gone 9pm and they just won’t go to bed! I want to put them up at 7:30…. Tough to get them in bed then.

Good luck! My silkies would raise kittens if I let them 😉

Oh good news. As I plan to do this for Tassels later in the summer I do want to hear all the details and tips on what to do.
We can take it to a DM if others aren’t interested, but I think they might be interested so maybe share here?

“Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears”

(Shakespeare: Julius Caesar)

This is from the scene were Marc Antony is speaking at the funeral of Caesar, casting Brutus in a very unfavourable light! One of my favourites - talk about stabbing someone in the back!
I remember the next line from a parody of this:

Someone in the crowd: "What do you have in the bag?"
Marc Antony: "Ears."

I’ll have to look that one up 😉

Oooo that’s how I got a peck in the eye a couple summers ago. One of the chicks pecked me behind my glasses! And there I though I was safe wearing my glasses!

One of these four, Sophia went broody, I threw these 4 under her and she was a marvellous mama ♥️
