TY...💗 She was a purebred Blue Ameraucana (not an EE) that came from a private breeder out of State ~ she was a Florida customer order missent to me while my Calif order was missent to Florida. I have to assume the Florida customer was just as devastated w/ their order too but of course the flaky breeder wouldn't divulge that info ~ I never got a total refund from the breeder's obvious gross mishandling of the whole experience of mailing sick birds plus mixing up the orders :(. I was supposed to get 2 pullets & got mailed 1 pullet & 1 cockerel instead ~ while Florida got my 2 pullets order! Gemma didn't pull thru & had to be put down at the vet but the cockerel got well from cocci & we found him a good home on a friend's farm rescue.
Such a sweet gorgeous rare boy but he was supposed to be a pullet! BFTP 2015

It's no wonder we started going to a feed store or local breeders to pick up future birds in person. W/zone restrictions in our suburbs we obviously can't hatch our own birds.

Have to say I am very happy with the chicks I got at Peavey mart, if I could get chicks from Hoovers myself I would.

Butters and Goldie a couple of buff Orps from Hoovers.

Five chickens on the roost. FIVE!!
After 6 weeks and one day sitting on a nest, Tassels has given up.
She really wasn’t sure and got down off the roost several times in the early dark and went towards the nest and then came back. But finally she decided to roost.
That means I have one week until she gifts me one of her beautiful green eggs and 4 weeks until she is broody again!

Are you still planning on gifting her with chicks at that point?

Hopefully.
Naturally that means she will never go broody ever again!
But yes, I hope so. Balancing time for Marek’s vaccine to take with age when she will accept them. And assuming I can get chicks at the right time.
I am stressing about it already!

Tomorrow, get in the car and buy them a watermelon. They like that,
We're down a car, and hubby suggested we do the grocery shopping last night after dinner. Grocery shopping is waaaaay down on his favorite things to do, so I jumped at the chance to have him go with. (Then he can pick out some things he likes, and maybe find a new thing.)

He told me to get the chickens a watermelon (I had it already on the list) and when we got home, he suggested I give them some right then. I cut off the two ends and they got an evening snack to help cool off.

They'll get more today, and it'll be refrigerator temp. I have some slices in the freezer too.

I've been wetting down the soil in the run to give them cooler places to dustbathe.

I’m really starting to like your hubby
