Yes. It's because of modern farming practices. They spray fertilize the fields with manure these days. That puts e. coli on the outside of the fruit. When you slice through with a knife it can transfer the bacteria to the inside where it can grow on the sugars in the fruit. Certain strains of e. coli can make you very sick.

Yesterday's adventure

the brush pile from trimming some of the pea tree hedge. Sherlock found the beginnings of an egg stash....

Also trimmed another portion (around the flag pole) so will likely get another stash when one (Lark, Indigo, Cumulo being the most adventurous at the moment) tests it out.

No more news on the broody front as of coop close last night.

When I first joined BYC, we interacted quite a bit. Very sad to lose her so young. She was a vital part of this site.

I don't think Aart ever posted on this thread, but she did hang around a couple of social threads.

She was a fount of practical knowledge on building coop/runs and practical care for chickens. Her opinion on anything was worth paying attention to, for me. She wrote some very informative articles.

I miss her.

I believe Aart last posted on this thread back in 2019. Prior to that she did pop in occasionally.

I knew her quite well. She helped put the BYC in BYC! Rest in peace
