Well... I'm out. :th The chick must've pipped and started cheeping earlier today, because my broody killed it. :hit I checked on her this morning when I let the other chickens out and everything was fine... came back an hour and a half later to find the egg pecked into a pancake. :he Needless to say I will never let her go broody again. I'm pretty shocked but I knew this was a possibility from the beginning. She's a BCW Polish so she's not a broody breed at all.
I brought the chick up to the house and got it out of the egg. This is the first time we've ever tried to hatch chicks and I didn't think I would cry but when I saw its feet I did. It was half silkie so it had five perfect little toes. :hit Today was either day 19 or 20 and it was perfectly formed and so cute. In pictures it looks a bit dark but in person it's definitely blue. I'm really bummed. We decided to name it Boo. Going to bury it under the rosebushes this evening. :hit:hit:hit

I am so sorry but could not like that the horror for you

My first keet hatched during the night 2days early He fell over the side of the grid in the incubator and died. I buried him this morning. I have 2 more starting to peck. I was told it would take a while to hatch out. I had no idea it would hatch so quickly and during night. Not to mention everyone says to leave them in the incubator to dry off and incourage the others. You can bet I will be watching closely the next few days .Excited but sad
Sorry you lost one!

I'm sorry. :hugs Poor baby. :hit We have a hen who has done the same thing. She's a terribly broody bird all spring and summer long but I won't ever be using her to hatch after she killed a chick. She's recently gone broody and she must be getting nasty in her old age. She pecked me quite badly and it's not fun collecting all the eggs she's accumulated! Previous years she's growled but never pecked.

Candled again lastnight. One egg had a question mark from last candling because it's air cell never made a solid connection - into the bin it went.

So, now, we have 9 crele orpington eggs left with lots of growth and veins.

At lunch i have Golden Cuckoo Marans and Silver Laced Orpington From Papas Poultry going into lockdown.

Sending out some growing vibes and love.

Can’t wait to see these chicks!! Please post lots of pics! Pretty pleeeeze!

Darn it. So sorry. I’ve had it happen too. Warily, I’ve let 2 killer hens try again and both turned out to be surprisingly wonderful mommas. First timers just sometimes don’t realize what’s going on. Up to you if you ever give her another chance, but I can tell you that they can do better. :hugs

So my actual “Halloween day” eggs, I just checked my broody again. Only 2 of 7 were fertile, now it looks like only one of those two is still developing. :(
But in better news, the broody that I gave eggs to the following week, at least 4 of those 7 are developing! Yeah.

And my momma duck is sitting tight. I snapped this pic this morning before she caught me and rushed back to them. :D

Are the eggs kind of a bluish-green color WV?

Glad to hear some of your eggs are still cooking!

We have one little Society finch chick (which suits me just fine). Another had started unzipping but the membrane had dried over its nostrils by the looks of it. Not sure if there are any more eggs that will hatch but this one baby will have all its aunties and uncles fussing over it and it's going to be the fattest little podge you've ever seen. We may have a dove chick by tomorrow as well. :ya
So adorable!!
