He has a rifle and a shotgun. I think he's planning on using the shotgun, with some sort of slug(I think that's what they're called... The shotgun munition that's a single chunk of metal, not all the itty bitty pieces)Sad for the bear though. Hope your dad has the right gun for the job.
Don't they have threads where they do that?Who are some members I can mention to help figure out breeds?

I did DNA testing on ancestory.com My grandmother's grandmother was full blooded Cherokee. Yet according to the testing I have no Native american in my dna?
Hoping for the best for you
It's a crazy thing. But you have to be prepared for surprises..
We get 1/2 our dna from each parent. So it's possible for your sibling to have very different genetics than you, and the same with first cousins. Even my sister-cousins could have things in their DNA that my brothers and I don't b/c their dad and mom could have gotten different things from their parents than my parents did. So based on my DNA one of my parents has to show at least some kind of Native American DNA for me to have gotten it, but it's possible that one of my siblings has more or none in their DNA. It's kind of interesting, esp if you've done a family tree.I was always told we had a native american in our bloodline but it didn't show up when i had my dna done.
That's a lot of sh- poop.I got poo today!View attachment 1349053
Dump truck load!
So sorry about your bird. The vet did the float test.
Results on Monday.
It's to late for my buff brahma. Sandy passed away this morning.
I am going to miss that pretty chicken.
What did the vet say? Are the others looking ok?My phone thinks I really like ducks, but I have more of a problem with my phone giving me random numbers or letters when I want a word. For some reason when I type out end I get 92nd and of course I expect the suggested word to be end so I tap it and do that a couple more times until I pay attention before tapping. I use speech to text a lot more b/c it's way faster and easier, but I keep forgetting to check. Yesterday I was telling a friend about what I'm going to do to the run and tried to say 'roosts to sit on' and it decided it had said 'Ruth to sit on'. Sigh.I clearly swear in text to much. I was writing shut and it kept correcting it to sh!t.![]()
Gasp! They're so cute!!!!More bunnies to tame!View attachment 1350355View attachment 1350357
Oh wow. I hope your modifications work and it has moved on. Has anyone else in your area seen it?Come on over, @21hens-incharge!(bring on the ice cream!)
A bear attacked the coop last night. It got April, one of the four adult chickens. She was one of the first chickens we got, back in March of last year. We'll be reinforcing the coop later today. It got in through a side door that has weak hinges. We don't use that door anyway, so we'll just be covering over it.... with wood.... and screws....![]()
I need to know what a tunneling speckled sussex is. Is it digging a hole to get out of your coop?Oh jeez Ruby I am so sorry! That is awful!
And to think I was logging on here to complain about having to work on my own coop and run today. But a tunneling speckled sussex is really no problem at all compared to a bear.Really puts my petty problems in perspective...
Here, have some more hugsAnd some sprinkles for the ice cream.
I Oh, and I have this photo to share from this weekend. I think this is the equivalent to eating cake with your hands.

did she fall in and couldn't get back out, or was she hiding?

I fixed my saggy run over the weekend. My thighs and back hurt from duck walking under my barely 4" tall run. In my next life I'm going to make a run I can walk into. I need to do more to support the wire cover on the larger run, but that's a project for another weekend. I was great having a warm DRY weekend for a change.
I put Olive back out with the others on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon when I checked her tail they'd pecked her pin feathers again, though not as bad as it was before. She's back in the cage and NOT happy about it. I should have given her a couple more days for the feathers to open up, but she'd been ranging w/ them most of the day on Saturday and no one messed w/ her so I figured they'd moved on.
I've got a lot of molters right now, but everyone but the zombie puff is laying. Her comb is getting redder so hopefully she'll be laying again soon. Oh, and I have this photo to share from this weekend. I think this is the equivalent to eating cake with your hands.

We used a disk to get the garden ready in the spring. It was such a great thing to do growing up!LOL the tiller did most of the work.
I had one fly up on the BBQ several years ago. She must have thought there was a treat in there...She almost became dinner!Well folks, now for a new and interesting chicken experience....
I'm out on the deck and hear clucking really close, which these days isn't abnormal as the girls go everywhere. But I turned to look and one of my RIW hens was standing in front of the grill on the deck yelling at me... Have no idea why, but when I acknowledged her she promptly turned around and hopped down the stairs.
Chicken Math!
