Official Squatch Watchers

Ugh. My heart says I want a kitty!:hit
But im trying SO HARD to be a grown up.
Um...maybe you could just put a few feelers out, so to speak? See what might be available in your area? You could contact local shelters—by phone maybe so you are not tempted into making a snap decision—and find out what ages/types of cats are available and if they have any that are good with dogs

Staceyj, I say go for it. Remember, you can always adopt an older kitten or young cat (1 or 2 yrs old) that has been around, and is good with dogs. We've had 2 cats around dogs, and neither one was a kitten. Granted, they weren't to happy about the dogs, but both have coexisted and neither species has done the other in. With the puppies, I would personally go with a 1 or 2 yr old that has been around larger dogs. It would be better able to handle them and put them in their place if need be. It might take a little more work to find one, but I think it would be safer for the cat, your sanity and heart, and easier on the pocket book. You don't want to start out with an emergency trip to the vet because the pups got too rough or decided the kitten was a chew toy. You'll also have the benefit of the cat most likely being fixed, up to date on vaccines, and a lower adoption fee, if it comes from a shelter.
The puppy is 18 weeks old. Learning and growing fast. I am ON TOP OF THIS PUPPY 24/7.
Our old dog Jonah I can tell is missing his cat as much as I am.

I know I’m nuts to even consider it at this time.

Cat or kitten -it’ll definitely be from a rescue group and from the one I’ve used before. They are wonderful. And they have already put the first year of medical stuff into them before they release them to an owner.

I’d prefer a young cat/kitten though I think because of the bonding issue and because I would like it to learn to “be” with us -dogs included, rather than be aloof and hide.

I’m going to take a nap soon while
The puppy naps and wait for inspiration while it rains...
My way of
Dealing with things ...

Once the pups have settled down, add a kitten. For now, I'd say go for the older, dog experienced one. Besides, the older cat can teach the kitten and save you some time and hassle of teaching it what is ok and what isn't, and how to handle the dogs.

@staceyj
There's nothing that says an older cat will be aloof and not bond. Our first cat was over two when she adopted us, and greeted everyone who came in the house and demanded love. DD#3 was 3 weeks old when we brought Sassy home, and the first night they slept in the crib together. It was Sassy's choice, and she never shied from the kids. My husband found her in an industrial area where he worked, and she decided he was going to bring her home. We added the puppy 5 1/2 years later.

Grown up..... there are no grown ups here!! Haha
I have always had a house full of animals. Growing up my mom has had tons of cats(no joke she is a freaking cat lady, she has 20!!!)
But I agree a very young kitten might bit work out will with wild active puppy's. I agree to find one a little bit old but still a kitten. I adopted/rescued all my animals except the 2 my husband decided he absolutely had to have :smack

We lost our 2 1/2 year old kitty last month to a sudden illness.
Right now we don’t have any cats and I miss him so so very much :hit:hit:hit

I have been very depressed and cry-ie.

*We are always limited to 1 cat only in our house because of the allergy factor.

:goodpost:But this is why squatchers are both the best and most dangerous friends a person can have. You ask if you are crazy to get a new cat, and we give kind and thoughtful justification for getting two! :bow I love you people :love

Edited to add, I just saw your post about allergies. I sympathize. That is the sole reason I do not and cannot have a cat

I'm allergic to your average cat, but I'm not to my Bengals. Of course, they are crazy cats. Especially crazy for, 11 years old.
