I've decided that being an adult is like a real life version of A Series of Unfortunate Events. On my way to Tractor Supply this evening I turned and my transmission died. Luckily my aunt had AAA and was able to get my car towed to my parents house for free. My dad needs to look at it but at this point it looks like the transmission is shot and we need to decide what to do next. Adulting sucks. This is not what they described in the brochure at all.

So sorry hon. :hugs

Yes adulting sucks.
No one tells anyone and then it's like "what the tater?!?! Am I just doing it all wrong?"
Most of adulting is trying to avoid the huge disasters while dealing with all the small ones.

Trust me, I have run smack into some huge disasters in my time.

There are lots of good times too. :hugs Hang in there and keep plugging along.

That sounds about right. It seems like it's one thing after another here.
There was absolutely no warning at all! I was driving, stopped to turn and then the car was like Um, no. when I put my foot on the gas. There was a horrible grinding sound. I was hoping it'd make it til the spring [says everyone who has an old car that dies].
And why are cars so freakin' expensive? Like the car I have now was 4 years old when I got it & cost $12k... I looked at this one place and they had 2 cars under 15k. Are they made out of gold?

The cost of cars is however high they can go until people just stop buying new ones.
My best car ever was an ‘06 Honda Pilot. Rode like a dream, handles effortlessly. Retired it with 306,000 miles on it because DH didn’t want to put $ into it for rocker arms and 2 catalytic converters.
My mechanic bought it from me did the work and turned around and sold it.
I see it periodically and am always sorry I let it go.
Seriously look for one of that year.

Good morning! @staceyj good to see you're still above water! @apryl29 sorry about the car it stinks when they just go with no warning at all! Check car rental places, they sell off cars pretty cheap and they've been serviced like they should. Well second morning of the littles just roosting, opened the door and there was my line of kids big Beavis on the end everybody just nice and peaceful. There has got to be something wrong with this bunch, they're way too easy.:)

When getting a rental that's being sold get that car fax!!

I got one that was 1 year old. The dang thing wouldn't drive straight at highway speeds. Had it aligned 4 tatering times!
Hubby got sick of it and went car shopping.......

The dealer did a car fax on my "trade in". Turns out it had been in at least 4 accidents in its first year.

Yeah, the frame was bent.

Apryl I like to buy 10 year old vehicles... eyes open and know what needs to be upgraded or fixed. A good 10 year old truck can last another 10 years or more.
My current car is 14 now. I got it when it was 4 years old. I've gotten some good use and put a lot of miles on it (no idea how many b/c I haven't seen the odometer in years), but def over 200k. Thanks to the salty winters the bottoms all rotted out. I was planning on replacing it this year, but things came up and it seemed to be doing well enough that I was hoping it'd make it to spring.

Well people w/ $$ need to stop paying so much for cars so poor people can afford to buy their used ones. Unfortunately I'll need to get a loan for it and I'll be lucky if I can get one for a car that's 6 years old.

My car before this one was a fleet car and worked really well while I had it. The transmission was going though & it didn't help that my ex blew up the engine (did you know they need oil?).. I gave it to my brother who loaned it to a "friend" who got it impounded. I really liked that car, it would have lasted a lot longer if I hadn't married an idiot.

That's horrible. My cousin had a car like that, except she was the one who was in an accident (the other guys fault) their ins came and looked at it and gave her a check for the damage, which she accepted. Then about a month later I was driving behind her and I could see the back of her driver's side tire. The entire frame was shifted and no one noticed.
I had a friend who just traded in her car b/c she was having suspected transmission issues. It wasn't very old, but she didn't tell them and the mechanic looked at it, didn't drive it.. I always wonder if they realized the problem or if it just got passed onto the next unsuspecting owner. I hate buying cars b/c you never know what their history is b/c people are horribly dishonest.

Oh you've always got to get the carfax reguardless of where you get one. It is sad but that is the world we live in, people will sell you a hunk of crap in a heartbeat.
