Encapsulated feather

Tumors usually mean Marek's disease.
The feather was inside her leg tissue. It wasn't ingrown it was growing inside.
The tumors weren't like I've seen for Marek's. They were all in tissue. I'm going to do more research and see if I can find pictures to compare what I saw.

Three of us necropsied this bird. We all talked about what we saw and how things progressed within the flock.
I know chickens don't handle stress well and it can often trigger illness. I started losing birds after I moved but they didn't. They weren't cared for the same. I tried but with trying to get the new coop ready and having to go over to them it wasn't the same. The stress continued with their move.
I'm really hoping this all calms down and they can be a happy healthy flock.

I lost Butterscotch my Sweish Pullet from this years hatch. She was fine yesterday. Seemed a little sluggish this morning. She was huddled in the coop when I went out this afternoon. I brought her in and thought I'd warm her up and get some food in her. She was dazed and listless. She stretched out her legs, flapped her wings, made that pitiful crying sound and died in my lap.

Swedish Flower genetic seem to be in the toilet. Someone else here said they bred them for a bit but had a terrible time. I'm going to contact them and ask about their experiences.

This is rediculous.
:hugs for both losses.

You guys are really making me appreciate hubby's relatives! My brother the most miserable relative i have. He only contacts Mom to try and get money.
Jealous. My .best friends had an awesome MIL. They still did stuff togehter for a few years after she divorced. The MIL was ticked that her son treated my friend so badly during their marriage.

Morning friends. I have a question......is it ok that my rooster eats layer feed?
I Fed all my birds later before, but switched to feather fixer & meat or all flock, sometimes chick if they were out. I didn't have any issues w my boys. I'm waiting for my pullets to lay before going back to layer.

Good morning 34 degrees but it feels colder! :)
Thats what im thinking. I don't know how we could owe on anything we never had right?

I disagree there is one other effective get out of bed sound...cat puking.;)
A child puking, or screaming My nose is bleeding!

That's how I settled on doing Feather Fixer for everyone all the time. I compared proteins and calcium and tried to go in the middle. I don't have soft shelled eggs. (Or almost any at the moment) I even get a few with extra calcium on. I've offered oyster shell and they flung it around more then ate it.

On that note I did put some pellets down yesterday.

And of course a couple of my goofballs tried to eat them this morning.

Puffed up they look like cheeto puffs.

I spread it around and step on it to pack it down. So far so good. I haven't lost another boot to my swamp.
Awesome! I'm picking up some today. Thanks!

Not how I thought I would spend an evening.
Her lungs had blood in.
View attachment 1608760 Found multiple tumors. (from breast)

I wouldn't believe it had I not seen it. An encapsulated feather in her leg.

There were abnormalities to her leg tendons as well.
For those who didn't want to look at pictures. Tumors were found.
That really sucks, but at least you have an idea of what happened now.

Morning all :frow

Soooo Sorry nunny :hugs:hugs

Suzie, I feed to the lowest common denominator. If I have young pullets on pasture, everyone get's grower. Once the pullets are of laying age, I'll move everyone to layer. But I generally don't keep roosters more than 3 years. I haven't seen any issues in my 3 year old boys when I process them.

21 Peta should probably be spelled PITA. One of my friends scheduled a huge BBQ for his customers and potential customers. The morning was scheduled to process the birds for the BBQ. PETA showed up and stole a bunch of his birds. Of course they died a slow and miserable death in their care as they were already fully grown.
There was someone who claimed to be vegan who said she'd use sheep's wool if the lambs weren't slaughtered.... By that theory she should be able to eat chicken eggs. Smh

I brought the babies in last night for socializing .
Awwwww

Does that mean more testing?

I know a few years ago someone on the Colorado thread kept a closed flock due to having Mereks.

I guess I am curious what it means long term for the flock.
I think Sassy had to close her flock, might have the wrong person though.

I'm sure you don't want to do it again, but do you still have the other bird that died? Maybe you could check that one too. Also, you could send a blood sample in for this bird to test for mareks to be sure.

“Submissive to them”. Yup hit the nail on the head.
Same here.

This whole thing was worded perfectly. @pitbullmomma you ARE WORTHY.

don’t let them convince you otherwise.

And yes, it’s okay to miss your mom.
Oh lord I miss mine.
I talk to her in my head all the time. She sounds so much like yours. She was my best friend. She loved me so much.
I miss being loved like that.
So so much.
It sounds like some husbands didn't get the message about "leaving and cleaving".

mareks is every where so having a closed flock will not stop it.

The swedish flower hens that are dying are likely not resistant to the strain of mareks causing the problems.

Note: without a necropsy to test for it is not verified. It is suspected until then.
