Was she about two years old?
Not even 1. Three of the Swedish Flowers I lost were at 1st molt. Two were hatched June. The Cuckoo Marans we necropsied was this years hatch as well. The only older loss was the Wheaten Amercauna at 2nd molt.
well snopes thinks freezing is ok... I have been freezing a little water bottle and sticking it in the waterers on super hot days.. a normal Texas day, but hot up here :lau
It could get too hot though so I'll quit doing that.

I freeze water in a container and dump out the giant ice cube. I use the big yogurt containers. Wider at the top so the ice cube comes out pretty easy.
mareks is every where so having a closed flock will not stop it.

The swedish flower hens that are dying are likely not resistant to the strain of mareks causing the problems.

Note: without a necropsy to test for it is not verified. It is suspected until then.
My problem with a Marek's diagnosis by necropsy is it could actually be something else. Leukosis for one. They look the same when the bird is opened up. Could the blood test be wrong. Sure. But I don't think the necropsy is as reliable as we have all always been led to believe.

In my search today I did not see pictures of a necropsy where the tumors were tissue based. Marek's and Leukosis both affect the organs of the bird. Her organs all looked good. Not a blemish on them.
I do think it is bad genetics coupled with stress. I looked for the person I got Swedish Flower eggs from and she hasn't been on BYC in 6 months.
So I may send away for more testing. But if it's a virus there isn't much I can do other then let it run it's course.

Well she isn't bleeding anymore but it looks like i'll have to clean out her nose hole.:barnie

Likely is bad genes and not mareks

That is good news and bad news! If it is not Mareks, then the SFH are prone to whatever cancer it is. This site has a section for cancers:

Hi guys....works been soo crazy and I haven't been alone to have a minute to respond to all this. I'm gonna try one of those multi-quote things that Apryl does so well, lol.

Tell him to ask his family if they want you there. Plain and simple. Say he needs an honest answer cause if you're not welcome you're not coming.

They always say they want me there, and why don't I come around more? It is true, I often try to duck out of his family gatherings. I can't be around people (especially his people, lol) that much.

Pbm.....people like that don't get it.....they will never get it. Sadly some people just have never been taught better. But you are better than that, you're kind and caring and so you and his family mix like oil and water. They are NOT worth the hurt or the time you have lost feeling miserable. Take a deep breath.....walk outside and scream.....punch a pillow.....then try to let it go. They will never change....but you have a choice. Be miserable and pissed (for a little while) or realize how lucky you are that they aren't blood relatives. Wouldn't want that seeping into your gene pool.

Loves ya

As for DH. Try to let it go.....unfortunately they are the only family he has.

Oh, my friend. I had a 45 minute conversation with his 93 year old mother on Tuesday night. I LET IT ALL HANG OUT. I was fierce, and awesome!!!! His mother is sweet. Actually , most of his family is nice, they are just ignorant.

I told her I love her son more than anything, but I was NOT going to be treated like a second class citizen any more, and tolerate the crap that has gone on.

I said it is ridiculous--not to mention very hurtful--that they have pictures of his ex wife, ever, anywhere.

I told her I was sick and tired of NEVER ONCE being asked to be in family photos.

I told her I am a good godd@mn person, and that her son lived with me for a year and a half, never told anyone where he was living, and I supported him. While he supported his entire extended family. And that he should have been proud that he was living with a nice, smart, good looking, funny DOCTOR and that they have some nerve acting like his ex is so great because all she did was pump out kid after kid, never work, and mooch off him while he worked three jobs so that they could have whatever they wanted.

I told her that I was not coming to any of their family gatherings for the holidays, and maybe never. Because I am disgusted.

I said it was shameful how the whole funeral/memorial service of his son went down.

I gotta go. He just got home. But wait, there's more coming. I was FIERCE, y'all.
