Y'all wish me luck tomorrow morning.

I hadn't posted about Miss May yet.
She is one of my big blue cochins.
She acts very off. Crop is good, no egg stuck, no goopy nose, belly feels normal, clear eyes. Slight limp but the foot and leg are good, no weird feather thing with the foot either.

I am going to try putting her and a roommate in the broody coop. I need to see her eat.
She is down a pound and a half, won't or cannot roost, keeps her tail down, sits around looking and acting like she isn't well. I got some egg and a tiny bit of mash in her but the other 5 birds in that coop make it very difficult.
Her crop was pretty empty at coop closing tonight.
I have yet to get an egg from her this spring.
:hmm I think she is internally laying even though her belly feels normal.
She is 3 years old. Last year she only laid about a dozen eggs total.
I hope you figure it out one way or the other. Of course for happy healthy birds is always the wish but the not knowing what is wrong is sooooo hard.

Awe. I hope not. Sweet Miss May.

Dear Diary,
So, I got Henrietta treated for worms this evening, and the extra dose of Corid. She acted like she was going to fall asleep standing up. :( She ate a couple bites of yogurt, couple bites of egg, and at least 4 T of buttermilk, in between blanking out. I tried to get Nutri Drench in her, but she wasn’t having it. Hopefully she can get some rest tonight. She looks better now than she did 3 hours ago. I hope she makes it, but wouldn’t be surpise if she didn’t. I bet I swept up no less than 1 cup of dander out of the floor today. Between holding her and trying to weigh her, it is a hot mess. And I am exhausted! And I have a full day outside the home tomorrow.
I hope she makes it. Henrietta was my favorite Aunt!

We all been there, not knowing exactly why they are off.

She ate this morning like she was hungry, but it was scratch put in a little pile just for her. :hmm

The broody house is to short for a roost that could hold such big birds.

I am doing all I can for her. I am getting a fresh bottle of nutridrench at 8am when the feed store opens.

@Sassysouth Get a large syringe and use it with mash or fermented mash thinned out with baby food so that it will go through the syringe. Put the syringe in at the side of her mouth and aim it so the mixture is going toward the back of her tongue. There should be something that can coat her GI system, @casportpony and @rjohns39 , so that she's not so miserable.

I know it's time consuming, but one good feeding a day can make a difference. You may also want to treat her for a yeast infection in the upper GI.

@21hens-incharge Let me know how she doing, I'm still working on getting Gurtrude's internal laying permanently fixed. She may be getting egg yolk peritonitis, which requires antibiotics. Gurtrude is on ceftiofur/naxcel 100 mg/ml. She gets 1.12 ml injected in to breast muscle once daily. She's also getting depo-provera monthly until we can get the money to spay her. The depo is only $16/mo, so it's not bad, price-wise, for the short term.

Our wind chill will be 13° roughly......I think Miss May should stay in the bigger house for now. :hmm

I will make her a dish of yummy stuff and see what she will eat. Of course there will be mash and mackerel. :p

It is already getting windy here. I will be dropping the sides on the hoop run right away this morning.

I may leave all the birds in the big house locked up. I am not wanting wind coming through and chilling the babies in there. I will turn their light back on for this storm too.
We won't get hit as hard as many other areas will.
