Ground is rock hard, no rain in months. I figure from the damage to the birds, it must be coon or possum.Morning everyone.
Cappy!
Did you find any tracks, fur, evidence as to what killed your birds?
Not yet, but it will be back. Might try setting a trap.Oh no!Did you catch what did it?
I hope you catch it, what ever it isGround is rock hard, no rain in months. I figure from the damage to the birds, it must be coon or possum.
Just had a pretty good bunch to further my breeding program and lost one that was free ranging a few days back. Now I am down to one frizzled hen and 2 frizzled roos.
Those bugs are terrible, some of them can actually get inside feathers I believe. Hope you can eradicate them. Eggs and fish will help recovery.I’ve been lurking but not posting.... it’s a long story.
So poison ivy got worse. I’m not really surprised. I got a steroid shot and felt fine till Saturday night. I had a dull headache all day and went to bed early. My head woke me in the night and it was not good, at all. So I was out of commission on Sunday too. I now have a steroid rx and rash from shoulders to knees.
Chickens are alive. But I have 3 that have different issues. A cream legbar girl that won’t stand up. Legs and wings work but it’s like she can’t tell them what to do. It dawned on me tonight that a few times recently a cream legbar had been in the rafters at bed check. But now that she has been in the house I haven’t seen anyone up there. So far treatment has been poultry cell in the water and rest. I gave her an aspirin today and I think I’m going to try that again. Maybe that and time...
I have a cockerel with a funny leg. I thought maybe dislocated but he can use it. It’s like he over extended it. So he’s in a crate in the coop. Next step is a brace or hobble of some sort.
Last and worst is little Clayton. He is molting and wasn’t feeling well so I wasn’t messing with him too much. He was clearly uncomfortable. Well yesterday he looked really bad so I brought him in to really look him over. He is beyond thin and so covered in mites....I gave him a bath and mites were running up my arms. What’s weird is I’m not finding mite eggs. He got a blow dry and is in the garage with a heat lamp. I checked on him before work last night and he was still crawling so I gave him a good spray down of Elector PSP. Added the heat plate for chicks just in case and went to work hoping for the best. Still alive when I got home and he ate a bit. Poultry cell in the water and food soaked in nutri drench water. This morning he was covered in bugs. They all seemed to be on the feathers not in them on his skin. But again crawling up my arms he was so covered. So a spray of permethrin to start the day. And some baby bird food mixed with nutri drench water. He still has live bugs on him!!! He is still alive but is beyond weak. Plan for tomorrow is another bath for him and an Elector PSP dip for everyone. It was cooler and windy today so I held off bird dipping. I cleaned the coop instead.
Any ideas for any of it are appreciated. Thoughts and prayers good vibes or black magic are also welcome.
