I’ve been lurking but not posting.... it’s a long story.

So poison ivy got worse. I’m not really surprised. I got a steroid shot and felt fine till Saturday night. I had a dull headache all day and went to bed early. My head woke me in the night and it was not good, at all. So I was out of commission on Sunday too. I now have a steroid rx and rash from shoulders to knees.

Chickens are alive. But I have 3 that have different issues. A cream legbar girl that won’t stand up. Legs and wings work but it’s like she can’t tell them what to do. It dawned on me tonight that a few times recently a cream legbar had been in the rafters at bed check. But now that she has been in the house I haven’t seen anyone up there. So far treatment has been poultry cell in the water and rest. I gave her an aspirin today and I think I’m going to try that again. Maybe that and time...

I have a cockerel with a funny leg. I thought maybe dislocated but he can use it. It’s like he over extended it. So he’s in a crate in the coop. Next step is a brace or hobble of some sort.

Last and worst is little Clayton. He is molting and wasn’t feeling well so I wasn’t messing with him too much. He was clearly uncomfortable. Well yesterday he looked really bad so I brought him in to really look him over. He is beyond thin and so covered in mites.... I gave him a bath and mites were running up my arms. What’s weird is I’m not finding mite eggs. He got a blow dry and is in the garage with a heat lamp. I checked on him before work last night and he was still crawling so I gave him a good spray down of Elector PSP. Added the heat plate for chicks just in case and went to work hoping for the best. Still alive when I got home and he ate a bit. Poultry cell in the water and food soaked in nutri drench water. This morning he was covered in bugs. They all seemed to be on the feathers not in them on his skin. But again crawling up my arms he was so covered. So a spray of permethrin to start the day. And some baby bird food mixed with nutri drench water. He still has live bugs on him!!! He is still alive but is beyond weak. Plan for tomorrow is another bath for him and an Elector PSP dip for everyone. It was cooler and windy today so I held off bird dipping. I cleaned the coop instead.

Any ideas for any of it are appreciated. Thoughts and prayers good vibes or black magic are also welcome.
Holy wow. Any of your other bird have mites? I used Poultry dust (in the garden section) when we had mites. I locked all the birds in the run & did a big clean out of the coop and doused it in Permethrin. Not sure the ratio I used, but followed the bottle for use on a structure & use the poultry dust on the birds. I used a foot of some panty hose & filled it w/ the poultry dust to make a ball & puffed their butt, breast & back, then used my fingers to work the dust into their feathers a bit. I put them into the coop (run was still blocked) until they were all treated. Then I raked out the run & tossed down some DE, though I got the garden stuff, not the food grade b/c I didn't know what I was doing. Repeated the coop clean out & poultry dust 7 days later & didn't have any more bugs. I also covered their legs in bag balm just in case they had any bugs hiding in their leg scales. I'm stunned the elector stuff didn't kill them.
I'd try the poultry dust on him just b/c it sticks more to the feathers and really seemed to work well.

For the gimpy ones, maybe they got hurt jumping down. Jackie hurt her leg and limped and laid down a lot. It eventually fixed itself, but it took a long time though. She's a big girl & I think she was hoping down from the roost which was pretty high up. I try to keep the cage in there now so they can hope down from a lower height.

Dang Nunny. :hugs

Sounds like he is being drained pretty badly. :(

To keep birds out of the rafters maybe chicken wire attached to the bottom of the rafters will stop that nonsense.
Good idea!

Going to be another puppy watching day. :p
Awwww... are you allowed to take pics of the pups you're interested in?

We can take pics. Not sure how they feel about the sharing though.
I have not been messing with the wiggly little wrinkle logs lol. No need to get mom stomping around with feet as big as their heads.
:th

The first mom, Willow is shy enough that I don't need to risk a "YOU MADE MY BABY SQUEAK!" bite.

The dark Cornish is left side 2nd from bottom. Above him is the red/black CX mix that hatched the same day. Next is a red/white CX mix that hatched 4 days earlier. The barred, right bottom hatched a few weeks later. All cockerels. The buff lower left is a CX mix pullet hatched same as the barred.

I don't blame her, I didn't want anyone else touching my babies either. Wrinkle logs. LOL

They're all so pretty, but I like the dark cornish the most. Are you keeping the boys or processing them?
