Official Squatch Watchers

I go through about 100 pounds of OS per year with my birds. It's $7 for 50# at the co-op. I go through about 200 pounds of grit, which is $19 for 50# bag in a year. Yet, when I harvest birds, they have grit way bigger than I buy in their gizzards.

Yay everyone went to the roost and nobody is fighting they just went in. Of course they are jostling for position but that's too be expected. The chicks where walking around crying but figured it out and momma was already in her new home. The BC's are confused but I will go out after dark and see if they made it in. Hopefully momma will accept Hannibal as her new rooster.

Suzie, the whole calcium thing is a bit bloated. If she will take it, that's ok. I feed my roosters layer and they do fine. When they are past their prime (2 years) their livers look fine.

ETA: The only time my roosters are on different feed is during the 30 day cool off, when they are in the bachelor pad... They get rooster booster feed.
x2... I kind of roll my eyes and chuckle whenever I see "dON'T eVEN tOUCH layer or your birds will DIE". I suspect management may make a difference significant enough that some folks have no trouble and others have some; mainly free range vs a bare run and scraps vs no scraps. I feed a ton of said scraps.

I bought oyster shell a few years ago. I still have most of it. The birds aren't really into it.

I sell most of my birds after 3--4 years of age but the one hen I did keep the longest (that somehow avoided predators) made it to 9. She might be still kicking; I don't know. I gave her back to my neighbour for some special care. She ate layer her whole life barring chickhood.
