Official Squatch Watchers

Thought and opinions please—

I cleaned the coop out not to long ago when the weather was nice. I put one bale of shavings down in case we got cold again. Now that’s a used up mess and needs to go.

I’m tempted to push it into the run. It currently has snow in so the birds refuse to go out. We are supposed to get a little more snow (thanks Ohio). But generally it’s a muddy mess this time of year.

Am I just going to make a stinky mess of the run?
I'm w/ Smuv & the others. Shove it into the run. I use straw and they've been dragging it out the door all winter long. It's actually kept that area much less muddy than the rest. Then if it ever gets warm and dries up you can rake it out if you really want to. It's just one bale over 16x16 so it'll probably get turned in pretty quickly if it ever stops snowing. Plus any food in it will give them something to dig around in and keep them occupied.

This is why Apryl told you to make sure you have *supplies*.... definitely signs and symptoms of TOTM. Supplies DO include chocolates!!!
Supplies is mostly chocolates.
:barnie I can't find the post........!!!

Someone posted asking about the breed/sex of their chickie. Yes, we get those a LOT... but this one just wouldn't take *the bird is too young* as an answer!!!!! Kept on and on with, *yeah, but if you were to GUESS, what would you say*.... *I understand, but what do you THINK it is?*.... dude, the bird can't be sexed yet sheesh!!!!! :barnie
But really, what do you THINK they might be? I like looking at those posts and making my own guesses then see what other people say to see if I was right.

I also used to scoop out the stuff and tote it away, but last week I raked most of it into the run. They really had a blast kicking and spreading it around. I use PDZ too, I think it helps a lot.

With how they roost I can’t use a poop board so in summer the floor is sand and PDZ mix. With the cold I have to add shavings. I shovel it around and throw PDZ down on the wood floor. Shovel it into the run works for me!

Yay! Day one of kitchen chicken without having to actively prevent Lizbeth from trying to get back to her pen to brood. Six more days to go before giving her some new hay.

Coffee's on, hot water for tea, cocoa and cider packets, crepes are on the counter, along with waffles. There are caramelized peaches, apples and pears, cream cheese, and other goodies on the counter. See y'all later, have a great day. :frow
Sounds great. Thanks!

I may start tossing shavings in the run.
I am hoping the ground thaws so I can turn the run dirt soon.
If I don't get it turned in time the spring rain just sits on the hard clay/poop/straw mixture.
That's what I'm starting to get. I'm waiting for a warm day so I can go out and sift some of the poop/ feed stuff out of the straw and shove that out the door. Odin's space has about 4" of poop straw that's back behind his roost that's not easy to get to.
Normal people are all talking about spring cleaning their houses & we're all making plans to clean our coops. I keep thinking about what I need to do to the run. I'm more interested in fixing that (when it's warmer) than cleaning my apt (which badly needs it).

Oops, hubby asked what i was expecting in the mail. So he knows i ordered an incubator. He is not impressed. Doesn't want me hatching chicks.

Neither did mine! But he'll get over it, lol. Just like mine, he has no choice (even though he thinks he does!) :duc

I asked mine. Of course, he's been hearing the crappy ones I have beeping like crazy and his mother complaining about them. So he's on board with one that needs less tending.
