Official Squatch Watchers

I have put some of mine in my coop like that on purpose! Yes, just close the upper door for several days, until the chicks are moving about well. Leave it open for momma until the first chick hatches. :fl

I would keep them in for at least 3 days.. they will have trouble w/that ramp at first

I would keep her shut in the coop with the chicks for at least 3 days after they hatch (or until she gets restless) longer if the weather is wet/cold. The ramp can be tricky, you'll want too keep an eye on them when you let them out because Mama can go up the ramp and call for the chick but the chick can't figure out how to follow and die of cold. You need to make sure all the chicks know how to get up and down the ramp before you stop watching. I would let them out on the 3rd evening 1-2 hours before dark and watch to make sure no babies get separated from mama.

Thank you all very very much!!!! I will follow your advice!!!!

What a little cutie!

I am not familiar enough with the tiny seramas to even guess genders.

We do have several AWOL squatchers lately.......
Oh boy, I'm very much thinking roo :oops:
They do just kinda pop out overnight. :he

I think everyone is trying to keep up with Kikis balut thread :confused: I gave up, too swift for me.

yeah, that's what I'm thinking....boy. Except, s/he has the sweetest little girlie face!

I swear, that comb did not look like that yesterday. It's crazy. :eek:

I'm about to give up on Kiki's balut thread. It's taking over my life. You blink, or go to the bathroom, and there are 350 new posts. I can't keep up!

I don't have Seremas, but any time a chick younger than a month gets a comb like that..... its a boy.

Ehhh, TATERS. Oh well, I'm keeping him or her anyway. I love that one!

@WVduckchick, I wouldn't say s/he is cocky and/or strutting, but I have never had a baby cockerel to witness that behavior. This is the first straight run batch I ever had (or hatched). The only roo I have is my Cemani, and he was 6-8 weeks old when I got him.

Maggie--and Suzi #2-- are both very friendly. They fly out of the brooder and snuggle up on me. I wouldn't say they are cocky, but they are both assertive. Suzi's comb is not as big as Maggie's (original Suzi). I have to snap a good picture and show you.

You should see Pippins the frizzle. Her feathers look so ridiculous! It's adorable.

They're all doing great. I introduced them to mealieworms today, and they went nuts. The 4 I adopted out are doing fantastic, too. I just love my tiny baby Seramas. :love

How is your DH handling the chick invasion?

Hahaha Rae, I think he just gave up! He, like, surrendered to the cuteness, I think. How can you be scared of a bunch of tiny baby Seramas??!! (Answer: You can't.)

Even now, when they poop on--or near me--he doesn't really freak out anymore.

I think he's' been Stockholmed, lol! :D

You got it! I just had DH do a little mini photo shoot of Suzi and Lily (the one that had the screwed up umbilicus that was very weak, and I thought she was going to die, but didn't).

Lily is the only silkied serama I kept. I got a good one of her freaky-looking little wing. The other silkied one I gave to my friend Rose. The rest came out smooth. :)

OK, here are a couple of Lily, the silkied serama. I think she is really a she (very petite and girlie looking, small comb).

She's a little peanut. I was calling her "Grumpy" for the longest time, because she had the grumpiest little pissed-off expression! (she still does, but not as much).

Here are her wings. Cool, huh?

@WVduckchick

Here is Suzi. "Miss Personality"!

Close up of her head/comb (boy? or girl?)

@WVduckchick

Now I just have to get pics of Fergus and Pippins...I'll get some later.

It's a beautiful day, we're going to go to Seaside, walk around the boardwalk, people watch, and eat giant pieces of good Jersey pizza and drink cold beer at the Sawmill....ahhhh...let the summer begin!! :)

@CSAchook I would consider a small lip one the edges of the ramp, just so the chicks don't fall off while learning how to go up and down, then take the lips off once they are not bumping in to them. I know the little ones tend to bounce, but avoiding broken legs is always preferred.
