Official Squatch Watchers

I am freaking tired today. Both of us were down by the river tying stuff to trees so it doesn't wash away. Like the canoe launching ramp and the bridge hubby built, and the canoe.
Doctor check up and trip to Walmart tomorrow for all the stuff i forgot the other day because i couldn't find the damn list.
Trying to get stuff organized, cleaned and built. Not enough hours for it all.
I’m glad you guys survived the night I was worrying about the river coming up to your house!

QUICK POLL

If given a chance to attend a free class, AND become certified, which would you choose?

a. HVAC
b. Plumbing
c. Electical

POSSIBLY as a future job to fall back on, definitely to be able to use around the farm.
I have done all 3 in the job i retired from. I use the electrical the most, then plumbing. People need help w/HVAC but the refrigerant/gas cost has gone through the roof, to keep it on hand.

I don’t go to the movies often. And for the past 25 + years 90% have been kid movies or with my kids. But when our movie theater converted to ALL KING SIZE POWER RECLINERS, well.....
I was intrigued.
My one daughter told her sister to MAKE me take her to see Amy Schumer’s new movie “I FEEL PRETTY”.
I read some reviews and kind of wanted to skip it.
It’s not getting very good ratings. And the reviewers have been quite harsh and critical.
But DD was unrelenting,
So we went.
I even took a picture of my feet all propped up in the recliner.
Did I mention they are POWER recliners?....yes? Well it needs repeating.
I’m famous for falling asleep in the dark coolness of a movie theater, especially if the film has a good score....and would have laid down odds that I wasn’t even going to last through the previews.
But I surprised myself.
I stayed awake.
And I really really liked it.
There were several real life LOL’s.
And a few awwwwww’s too.
It was funny and sweet and despite the things about it that weren’t perfect, is there any one of us, young or older, who hasn’t loathed ourself for one reason or another?
Who hasn’t felt awkward or ugly or fat or self conscious?
Raise your hand. I want to be you.
So take your mom or your daughter or your best friend or your partner and go see it. (I even think DH would have enjoyed it, because he is such a good dad.)
I guarantee you’ll enjoy it.
And if you see a girl dressed up sitting all by herself a few seats down, ask her to scootch over and come sit with you.
(Because that’s what we did).
It really deserves to not be watched alone.
I really want to see this! I don't do theaters (except w/ the kids) so I'll wait til it comes out on dvd (or netflix), but good to know it's good.

That sounds absolutely awesome Stacey!T

I am very glad you had a good time. You needed it.

I am headed to get chicken feed and may stop at Home Depot to get flowers for the porch pots.

Got family coming to visit Saturday. They will be here a week.
Let's check my thrilledometer...........

Yup as I suspected no reading at all.
Good luck. Are you going to put them to work?

@staceyj My poor mother has never lived down falling asleep in the theater. During Jurassic Park. The scene were the T-Rex escapes and eats the lawyer. My dad says he wasn't sure who was making more noise, the Rex or my mom. :lau
I don't think she's been to the theater since.
I fell asleep during the movie Payback in a theater.. My bf (ex-husband) was pissed, but it was a terrible movie and I was tired.

Hiya kids!!! I really need to set an alarm to MAKE myself come out here and report in.... I've just been terribly wrapped up in so many different projects that I can't keep up.

1. Business cards and banner arrived from vistaprint today..... and they are HORRID! The banner came in stained... it looks like it's been out in the elements for a few months, or rolled up and stored, uncovered, in a leaky garage. Then we noticed, all the cards have 2 small stains in the upper right corner, on both sides, on every damn card!
Contacted vistaprint and they immediately corrected it. Said the design is supposed to make everything look *rustic*, but even the customer service guy said it looked dirty to him, not rustic. He put our template onto a different background and is sending out new business cards and a banner. Awesome customer service!!!

2. I HAVE TO get the website up and running, yet I can't seem to focus enough to read and do the pages. I am seriously frustrating myself.

3. 25# bag of peanuts to make boiled peanuts. 100, 16 oz cups to fill. Doing math to see how much per filled cup out of pocket cost is. Luckily, I am fantastic at math... so this one isn't as problematic... it's just taking a lot of time cause I have to make a # of boiled peanuts to properly measure how many will fit into the cup. Yikes!

4. All of my labels and jars aren't arriving when I need them to! :barnie

5. Decided on a Cattle panel hoop coop for yon ducklets... and found a kick arse trough to use for their pond. Going to TRY and do a DIY bio filtering system, AND use rainwater runoff from the gutters to help refill their pond. So, this weekend we'll be outside... a LOT... building 3 hoop coops, staking deer netting over our 3 raised bed garden, re-netting the top of the run cause Purple Thunder gets out daily, and has now taught her sister, Brain, how to get out too. No bueno!

6. Plus raking out the run and coops for their compost before putting down new layers of straw, hay, alfalfa and sawdust. We may be making a trip into TN, about 40 miles away, to pick up some XL bales of hay, made mostly of timothy grasses and stuff.

7. Tiniest ducklet we have now has a funky eye ball.... so trying to figure that one out. We have antibiotic eye cream and oral amoxicillin and oral penicillin, but nothing injectable and NO IDEA where to buy them. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/white-spot-in-eye.1239402/)

8. Trying to make a list, and checking it 376 times, to make sure I'll have everything for the farmers market on the 12th. I'm sure once I have all the BASE supplies down, the next farmers markets won't be as anxiety inducing! lolol

9. Our test run for our fertilized eggs was a bust, but I think it was kind of everyone and everything being at fault. I think some of the eggs weren't fertile. I think that possibly the incubator got too warm a couple of times. I think we had a few quitters. I also think they had low humidity and didn't get turned as much as they should have. I don't think I'm going to try incubating them again... however, I am going to take the unsalable (ie: dirty eggs) and start cracking them open to check for the bullseye. Definitely going separate out a few dozen eggs and sell as fertile, hatching barnyard mix!

Being over the age of 45, weight isn't going to melt off me....... so, I WILL just keep very active... and also let @staceyj know she was right.... I'm not eating enough protein... and not enough calories in general. Gonna reset and try again! :D

:hugs to everyone. Chickie losses, bunnie losses, weird ass neighbors who aren't smart enough to know humpy stuff means sex (kinda feel bad for her hubby/bf or whatever).

Miss you guys and I'm gonna sit on my duffer and DO MY WEBSITE TOMORROW.... dishes can wait... but a website that is printed on our business cards cannot wait! Gotta get professional!!!
Wow, that's a lot of stuff going on. For the website, can you make it a PIC project? Obivously, you'd oversee things before it's published to the web, but you could have him do some of the stuff to get it started, or work on it together. I know my giant human has website design as a hs elective, so it should count for something.
As for the poll I'm going to say Electrical b/c it can kill you if you don't know what you're doing and you'll be able to make $$ doing electrical stuff for people who don't want to risk death.

Better all boys than all duds! Did i tell you the LG incubator was up to 133° this morning? :hitI lost a full bator of guinea eggs. Half afraid to try again! But i did find a clear plastic cap to cover the knob with. And i moved it up on top of the dresser.
Maybe run it w/o eggs for a bit to see what's going on. Keep a log of the temp at regular intervals. It could be that something internally is failing and causing it to spike. I know my stupid electric oven doesn't work correctly and even though it's set to 300 it will heat up to 350 and if I put it on 350 it goes up to 450. See if you can find a manual for it, it might describe how that works.

I was wondering if you were close enough to be at risk for flooding your home. Be safe!

So beautiful. Also that blue plate really showcases their colors!
Thank you! I was so excited!!

Olive looks like a hot mess right now. Her neck is naked. Here's a pick of her beardlessness. (her eye isn't cloudy, just a bad pic)

Last night I let them all out and she's eating some worms under a board I moved and one of the amberlinks runs up and grabs a feather from her butt! I stuck her back in her cage, but next week it's going to be in the 70's and I don't want to keep her trapped in the coop all day long. I was thinking about putting her in Odin's space so she can get outside, but then he'd be in the main coop and I don't want him over mating everyone. I still have the side space that's much smaller that I can put him in, but I'll need to clean it out this weekend.
I need to go get tags for my car, but the engine light is on so it's not going to pass echeck so we need to work on that. And I need to get a new driver's license which means I have to get my stupid picture taken. Luckily I've was taking my rosacea meds so at least my face doesn't look all red and blotchy. So grateful they don't use hi-res photos for that.

GAH! I'm so glad I put my LF white eggs in my Brinsea. I think the temps in my Franken-bator aren't right. Of the 10 eggs that were a week old when I moved them over last week, only 4 still look viable. The eggs I set last week, maybe half are viable.

:hit

Now that I got my humidity issues sorted, I need to do some temperature testing.
Gotta love brinsea incubators!

Your franken incubator needs a real thermometer to calibrate it. It is the most important thing for incubating and many will not spend the $25.00 to buy one. Yet they spend hundreds on shipped eggs that then die

(I am not saying this is you! This is for the wider audience that reads these posts)

Good morning squatchers

@Smuvers Farm
Omg
Hot boiled peanuts.
My fav.
Been loving them for years!
And making them and buying them...

They sell here for 3.99 a pound.

Don’t cheat yourself on the price and don’t forget to factor in the cost of propane if you are boiling them out doors.

As far as the poll is concerned my hats off to anyone that does HVAC but I could never do it! You could not pay me enough to climb around in the dark cramped crawlspaces under peoples houses!

Also I wouldn’t want to electrocute myself so, by the process of ellimination I would have to choose plumbing, crack and all!

Good luck at the farmers market!

I have no plans on under pricing them burled p-nutz, cause around here you can only get them at the gas station in the *bad* neighborhood (and boy, do they SUCK), or canned at the grocery store... and boy, do they SUCK!!! :lau

And you brought up a VERY good reason the STDH couldn't do HVAC. He'd be under someone's house, run into a roach, and scream bloody murder. WOM around here spreads like wildfire, so he'd be out of HVAC work right then and there! :gig

I would love to make it a PIC project however, he's not quite 9 yet, so this kinda stuff is slightly out of his range. Plus, he has *goldfish syndrome*, where he can't concentrate on stuff he doesn't like for more than 3 seconds!!! lol

And I am right there whichoo about tags AND license. Need to get Fizzgig registered... still running around on tags that expired April 1st... and I've not updated my license in YEARS, because we lived in states that didn't require it as long as STDH had an active duty military ID. He's about to retire soon, so I gotta get off my arse and get everything updated and registered!!! :barnie

Yes, I LOVE mine.

I think that all the ups and downs in temperature that we have had recently aren't helping. I live in an old farm house and it isn't exactly a stable temp. I'm finding that depending on the temp, I need to take the front window insulation out when it is warm and replace it when it is going to get cooler. I'm thinking when summer hits, I'll need to bring my incubators into the bedroom with me and the air conditioner.

Question, I'm hesitant to dip my incukit temp sensor directly in ice water to test it. Can I put it in a plastic bag before submerging it?

No experience w/ it, but I don't see why you couldn't as long as you remove all the air and let it sit long enough to let the temp stabilize through the bag. I don't see how it'd be any different than a thermometer cover.

I would hesitate to do that. Very sensitive sensors are hurt by low or high temps. The best way is to use either a calibrated good thermometer or a Brinsea spot check(Don't need to calibrate spot check thermometers and they definitely will be ruined by high or low temps...and they do not read below 85F anyway) to test the temperature in the incubator.

What would likely help with your place would be to regulate the temperature in the room with the incubator. I have a little heater with a thermostat and incubate in a closet. I try to keep the temperature around 70F with the little heater.

@apryl29
No way will I be putting that stepson to work.
I don't even want him in this house. When he stayed with us years ago he was very disrespectful to everyone here and mean to my old dogs. As in mean enough to make the shep cry out in pain more than once.

The last time I saw him he was 24, on drugs and his dad was in motion to knock his block off. Literally.
I stopped that mess and gave him 30 minutes to pack his taters and hit the road.

To say I don't like him would be accurate.
