Official Squatch Watchers

My broody hens tend to get up 2 or 3 times a day for a mad dash to poo, eat, drink, dust, raise heck along the way then back on the nest.

The biggest issue is if someone else in her spot when she comes back.

You have food and drink right there for her. Just have to get it sealed up so she cannot end up on the wrong nest or others squeezing in.
Will she eat when she's finally hungry? I haven't found giant broody poops either...

She should.
I always know when Bitty is off the nest. She tuk, tuk, tuks in between making the others yell about being bossed around.

The refusing to eat is always worrisome.

If you can reach her easily check her crop at night.
Also always have some plain water in case she refuses the nutridrench. Dehydration is worse than hungry.

They seem to love freaking us out.

My recent broody also seemed to eat very little and I almost never saw the infamous broody poops. Just keep an eye on her condition. Mine seemed perfectly fine and healthy even though I was convinced she must be starving. They really don’t seem need much while in their broody trance. :idunno But maybe also offer plain water in addition to the drench. Just in case she prefers that. Excited for your hatch!

And speaking of broodies, my white Cochin is full-pancaked and trying to sleep in the nest box. I don’t have the space for more chicks right now so I am going to have to try and break her. Wish me luck!
Good luck!
