Nugget is gone. Literally. I went home during lunch to take some eggs and fish to Loki and the rest of the chickens and Loki got up and there was no baby. I looked everywhere and I can't find it. I don't hear any peeping. So the only thing I can come up with is that something ate her. Either a snake or rat. I saw no blood and Loki was upset and looking for the baby too. And now I get to tell my kids that yet another pet is gone. I would have a slight amount of hope that it was still alive but it is only 60 degrees out today.

Poor Loki she worked so tatering hard. You looked absolutly everywhere? If something snatched her Loki would be p*ssed not sitting at all.

Apryl, if she will let you, use a small file on her beak. I find flipping them on their backs works well, then hold their head and beak snugly with their mouth slightly opened. I file Gurtrude's and Lizbeth's since they don't have dirt to wear them down. You may need a second person to hold her, but once she realizes what your doing, and has her eyes closed she should calm down. She'll be very appreciative, especially if she's not used to having her beak that long. I hope she perks up soon.

Don't give up hope yet, miracles do happen. Did you check in Loki's wings? They do have a nice chick-sized pocket and I can picture Nugget sneaking in there and falling asleep, or just being cozy and quiet. Loki may not notice if she was snoozing at the time. I hope Nugget shows up.

She was walking around the coop and run full turkey'd out. growling and clucking. I tried putting her outside to see if she might hear it or had seen it get out and go find it, but she just stood there looking into the run. I think she's hoping it'll come back to her, but it's too late if it was that the baby wandered off. I wonder if it wandered off while she was sleeping, but there's no body and I don't think it could have gotten through the chicken wire. It was too big to fit through the holes. I looked behind the feed container and dug through the straw. If it's in the coop I can't find it. No body, I checked all around the outside of the coop. Crawled around the run. The only place it *could* be is under the coop, but I didn't see her, and I don't think she could have been able to get under there w/o jumping up onto a 4x4. IDK... I can't find her. Now I'm not sure what's going to happen to Loki... will she eventually accept that the baby is gone and go back to normal or will she try to hatch more eggs again?

Thank you, I'll try that this weekend. She was able to eat when I was there, but she seemed to be having some trouble.
