@rjohns39, How long do those BBW turkeys live? Are they like meaties and just peter out after so long? Asking because hubs has a chance to bring me one and you know i'm not going to eat it, but I don't want to get it if it is just going to flag out in the yard in a couple of months.

If you're looking for a pet, I'd go with a heritage breed. I know folks who've kept BBWs for up to 3 years, but not sure what's involved.

ETA: BTW, they are like big feathered dogs.

I do want a pet, wasn't going for this one. This turkey was going to be food but fella's little girl isn't having it. They can't keep her, "it is a hen" because neighbors are being rude about the turkey. So they are looking for a home, for Tina. I just don't know a whole bunch about meat turkeys and if she's just going to get super fat and be miserable then there's no sense in me taking her.
