Crazy Idea!
Use the old garage door track and wheels to make sliding barn doors for the coop.
Thoughts? Engineering ideas? I’ve lost it?
I would worry about gaps that weasels/mink could get through by me.
snow/bedding in the track... I have a window rigged to slide for a pop door about a ft up. They always kick bedding and poop in it

Lol! It will all go back to normal. Lulu will be back hiding behind my legs and Tucks won't be slinging crumbs in my clothes. I feel for you, i'd hate for Negan to be my terrorist! Lulu is bad enough but she's so dang fat unless her target is in her face they're safe. But yeah when Marlene's butt isn't naked Miss Lulu is in big, snorting trouble. :)
Sorry you are going through this too. Poor Tucks! At least Negan is trying to help as much as he can. Roux has staged a full blown military coup and gleefully seized power! :he He even stole her roosting spot last night! Little does he suspect what the future holds for him if Amelia gets her groove back ;)
Sounds doeable Nunny, but you'll have to figure out how to keep stuff out of the tracks.

I was thinking doing a side to side sliding door.

Well-- I went to the old house to check on everyone there and Trouble my rooster was d.o.a. I thought the molt was making him not feel well. Guess it was more then that. Of course Taterhead is still alive and well and being a taterhead.
I also picked up a pool noodle I had there for Glayds. Maybe leg supports are in order.
Sorry about your rooster!

It seems like one extreme or the other. No one will treat a chicken if it's sick or you have to spend hundreds on testing to have it die then pay to have it necropsied.
I take my pets to vet when they are sick and I can't treat it. I hate to say it but if one suddenly dies I wouldn't send it for necropsy.
My last 4 chicken losses were all Swedish Flowers. C.C I thought had eaten to much of the spent beer mash that wasn't stored properly. I feared the same for the little cockerel that showed signs on wry neck within a few days. I culled him. With Sugar I felt like it was a life long struggle for her. She was always soooo meek with the other chickens and they took advantage. With the loss of Trouble, I'm at a loss. He wasn't looking his best recently and was molting pretty good for the first time in his life. I thought Taterhead was using it to his advantage and trying to get top spot back. I never thought he would go belly up on me. That's how I found him. Flat on his back, legs in the air.
My first 6 were all hatched from the same shipped eggs. I hatched 3 of their offspring and culled the one boy. So I'm down to a hen, a pullet, a rooster and a cockerel. Their genetics concern me now.
They all seemed strong and healthy till the loss of C.C. I just don't know.
You should try calling the place in Middlefield and see if they'll give you a referral. It's worth a shot. The worst they can do is say no.

Now son's GF has been admitted to the hospital and is getting IVF.
Fingers crossed that they'll be ok. Dehydration can cause contractions so hopefully the fluids will help prevent worse problems.

I'm watching that kick em when they're down crap here too. Trust me, if Marlene wasn't molting Lulu wouldn't dare shoot her the stank eye and Tucks wouldn't be eating dinner in my lap lol! Rooster is trying to help but he's molting too ,plus the girls are just ruthless right now so I don't blame him for not getting in the middle.
Good to know mine aren't the only jerks right now. Everyone is being majorly grumpy. Hopefully everyone grows their feathers back soon and gets rid of the attitude.

I have a sliding pop door. They do get gunk in the track but I just give it a quick sweep and it is good to go. So I think maybe it could work. Just make sure you are set up in such a way that it is easy to access and sweep the track. Putting the door above ground and above floor level helps keep the track clear.
The only other issue I could see being a problem is if you got ice in the track. Not sure how likely that is...or how you would prevent it

It’s the kitten.
I’m sorry. Should I have gotten an “extra” pet so soon after getting the planned puppy- but after the unexpected death of our cat?
Probably not just in case of unforeseen stuff....

And doesn’t it figure that the one kitten who grabbed my heartstrings was one who, a month into it, turned out to have a gosh darn mystery illness?!?

I was not expecting or prepared to drop $1500 (and counting) on a $50 rescue kitten in the first 3 months of ownership.

Euthanizing him for lack of answers was not an option.

The issue at hand is a small one. (@pitbullmomma don’t come hit me!)

He got the first two fvrcp immunizations from the rescue group.
They said he needed 1 more and his rabies at 4 months. (Nc law)

When I took him for his 1st vet visit, they said they don’t trust the rescue groups vaccines and wanted to start over.

So I agreed to have him tested for fe-luk/aids and get those vaccines too.

The short story is the shot series has been started and suspended numerous times because of his mystery illness -which currently seems to have spontaneously resolved-

After the hurricane I called to notify them that the rash was gone and I wanted to take advantage of that window and get his vaccines finished up.
So when I made the appointment I let the scheduling secretary tell me which one to get first -because she said they don’t give them together.
She said rabies first.
So we did that last week.

The other day I got a call from their head tech who said the two doctors were looking at his chart. (Idk why)
And it appears that now he’s missed the window for the final fvrcp, (AGAIN!) so now he needs 2 more!
All in all he’s had 5 fvrcp’s so far, so Now he’ll have SEVEN, by the time they consider him done.

I am very concerned about this.

No hitting from me, Stace!

When I was a practicing vet, I used to get into it all the time with my first, awful, boss cuz he wanted to vaccinate every cat and dog with the maximal amount of vaccines whether it was warranted or not. I, OTOH would assess each patient's needs and only give what I and the owner felt was warranted. If it was a little dog I would bring them back to split up vaccines, at no additional charge, because it was safer.

He used to get pissed off at me for doing that--loss of money for the practice--but I never lost a pet to vaccination.

A couple weeks ago, my neighbor across the street (who goes to him) told me his tiny 3 year old dog died after he took him to that taterhole. He administered a couple vaccines at once, and failed to treat the dog appropriately when Mike brought him back showing clear signs of anaphylaxis....I was so so upset....I despise that man, he was the worst vet ever!!!

I only vaccinate my dogs at the very minimum for what I feel they need appropriate to their lifestyle, and I always did the same with every dog or cat that came into my practice.

I hate vets who practive like this and I would never recommend someone taking their pet to this guy or Banfield or the like, because they have the same "one size fits all and vaccinate for everything, all at once" mentality as their business model. For real....

Anyways, not all vets are bad. There are plenty of us out there with ethics, morals, and who practice sound medicine while treating each patient as an individual (but of course, y'all already know that!) Just had to throw my respectful .02 cents in there. :)

Edited--as always--for super-crappy too-fast typing!

I was going to do sliding barn door for my entrance. There is a 28 1\2" opening in the wall. So I thought a 40" door would give plenty of extra space on either side for wind and snow protection as well as predator. With the brackets to hold it close to the wall that is.

Don't mind the very rough drawing.
So the yellow part is filled in now. (Not in the picture.) Put the track where the blue line is. There is header there from it being a garage door opening. Then have the door be that green part. A good 5" extra on either side. Black lines would be U brackets to act as a stop on the right and hold the door back from swinging out to far.

It looks so good, Nunny!! You've done a great job with it.

I'm so sorry about your roo. :hit You have been going through some sad times lately.....

I think you are way overdue for some wonderful things to happen for you soon! :hugs
