2 summers back we'd just gotten the chickens and my daughter was outside w/ them & a storm was coming so she was trying to get them back in the coop. She was swinging around a stick under the tree and there was a nest the size of a softball that she either hit or jostled and one got her. They can eat what they like, but leave us alone. I had one that kept buzzing the coop last year, no idea what happened to it. We had a small yellow jacket nest on the side of the coop, under the edge of shingles. We killed those off. Every time we went in the coop they'd come swarming us.yeah I was glad, but I was glad when I seen a bald face hrnet grab a fly too...
the hornets built a big nest 15 ft above a chicken coop though .. when I went to take down the shade cloth, there were a couple on the cloth last fall... They hadn't bothered me so I flipped them over the fence in the sun.
