Maybe Iris? They are tough.

Although tough they aren't when it comes to dogs walking on or through them.

I grow mine so I can divide and trade with a local greenhouse. They get broken pretty easily and since they (most varieties) bloom once a year they aren't all that showy.

Oh then there is the cost......... Buying from the 2 main sources the best sale price is still $10 for a small rhizome.

When I trade mine I get about $15 each. I grow a couple rare types.

I guess you need to grow woody bushes. Or fence off an area for plants.

Azalea? Boxwood? Dog wood?

I think those would get big enough to resist dog activity.
Thinking I would not choose video of just cause of the trimming and potential home for spiders. :hmm
The others are open and airy.

I can get little purple Iris for free! My parents have enough to start their own company selling them. LOL I was thinking Lily of the Vally too. They do good in shade.

Right now there is some sort of ground cover looking stuff. I’ll probably never get rid of it. Once the plants looks more like plants the dogs will behave and not trample them too much.

I am sure most of us have seen this. It is concerning to me since it affects ALL types of birds. Including wild birds......that migrate.

Wow, that sucks. I hope it doesn't spread this way. We get migratory birds from the south and north here. That's how we got the mites last year.
I remember a few years ago when the all of the OH county and state fairs cancelled all the bird exhibits. I think it was the bird flu going around. We considered doing 4H and showing birds, but after reading up on everything I didn't want to risk it.

Well I got semi results from the necropsy, good news is no tumors and what did show makes sense, she showed endocarditis lesions.
There was also staphlococcal arthritis present on the right side.
So I was correct.
Still a few blood tests to wait on but he said the issues were pretty clear. Sad, but yay for it not being contagious as a mofo.:yesss:
That's great news, still sad, but nice to know it won't spread to your other birds.

Hello everyone! We are stopped for dinner and are about half way to our friends’ house. We stopped on the way out, got deposit checks from the bank for the houses and did the initial closing. To our surprise, the lead time on our house is 2-3 weeks, WEEKS!!!!! My in-laws house is already built, so that isn’t a problem, we just put a deposit on it. We could be moved in VERY quickly. I’m VERY happy! The cockerels seem to be taking the ride well. Only the occasional growl or crow out of them. They did get a little over heated during the closing. When we went in, it was in the 30’s and the sun wasn’t out. When we came out, it was in the upper 40s and the sun was out. So we had to air them out quick, but they recovered nicely. It smells a bit like wood shavings and chicken crap, but it isn’t too noticeable once you’ve been exposed for a bit. Just when you are getting back in the car.
Great news! I hope they're able to finish so you have plenty of time to move in and get settled before the baby comes.

I know Nunny, i'm just weird about handling some kinds of grief and chaos.
I isolate and eat when pets get sick mope a little bit turn into a mega hermit.
It is freaky because I take one dumb part of my training into pet loss.
I can't concentrate on much else until my "patient" is at peace.
I had a long wait with her, she ate, pooped and was in good spirits until the end just that right side got stiffer and stiffer.
I couldn't cull her even though that leg was frozen in place so I just kept her comfy, tried everything and just waited.
I'm pretty much broken when it comes to certain lines of seperation, i'll fully admit that.
Thank you though, i'd rather talk to my squatchy buds about happy things i'm not a good FUBAR conversationalist at all.:)

Happy picture, my coop Queen and King.:)
Never thought i'd see it, but there they are.View attachment 1687013 View attachment 1687015
I know what you mean. You do what you have to do and then react when it's over. It's better to keep a level head and chug along than freak out and possibly make things worse.

I used to get like that too Chickassan, back when I raised dogs. If I lost a puppy for any reason, I punished myself by staying in my room. Way back before my father passed away at 90(in nursing home) he always blamed me for anything that went wrong. My mom never stood up to him, or he would have blamed her too.
My mom is one of those people.. She probably thinks she's joking, but I've spent my whole life hearing her say It's April's fault. no matter what it was. She'll literally walk out side, see me and say 'It's all your fault'. Not talking about anything specific at all, she just says it, like in passing. I've made a point to never say stuff to my kids like that. When she says stuff like that to my kids I contradict her b/c it's not a joke and it's not funny. I recently noticed that I've never once heard her take the blame for something. There's always someone else to point the finger towards. It's hard to get past that type of thing, but when you recognize you're blaming yourself for something that's not in your control then you just have to tell yourself the facts of the situation, it makes it easier to put things back into perspective. When something less than optimal happens there doesn't have to be someone responsible. Sometimes things just happen. :hugs

It isn't so much punishment on my end it is like my wires get crossed.
I'm ok with death, even people that are very close.
I get sad, upset sometimes angry even but I can't show that.
At the end of it I have to shake it off usually with a banana milkshake from sonic.
Yeah, that is my "professional" mental cleansing and i'm aware alot of people would consider that monstrous.
With pets though i'm a mess, I don't know what it is I can still perform all the necessary tasks but no amount of sonic shakes can clear that sad funk.
I actually weep over pets, even a fish.
Like I said, just skewed now but I guess it could be worse.:)
I've gotten unnecessarily sad about the most ridiculous things. Like when I think I cried more when Jaiden, a chicken I'd had for all of 9 months died, than when my cat Jasmine, who I'd had for 19 years... but Jasmine was sick and I'd known her time was coming and I saw her decline and knew it was better. Jaiden's death was more of a shock. So it's like I'd prepared myself for Jasmine and I knew it was coming when I took her to the vet that day, so while it sucked, I knew I was going home with an empty carrier. While with Jaiden, I was expecting some meds and a chicken to take home. Most of the human's I've lost in my life were people who were sick and it was expected. I remember when I was in 9th grade a boy in my algebra class that I didn't know very well died and it was horrible, but over the next 4 years several other people died, including his sister, and it didn't seem to bother me as much. I don't think your reaction is as much about how much the person means to you, but more about how much of a shock the loss is to you.

Isn't Lily of the valley poisonous? (I don't know that it is, I'm asking b/c I remember some lilies are.)

Good morning everyone. I’ve been at the worksite for almost 4 hours now. I left early to avoid DC Metro traffic. It snowed last night, but nothing really stuck to the roads.

I’m exhausted. I got, maybe 4.5 hours of sleep last night. Hopefully I can get a bit of a nap when I get back to our friends’ house.
