Official Squatch Watchers

I am back home with the new chicken, and lots of catching up to do.

This poor, poor hen. A bald spot on her lower back, broken feathers, lots of dander, no feathers on her vent. A pale, dry comb with a scab. I have never had a chicken scream like this one, when I pick her. She has come from a very stressful environment, or maybe I am reading to much into it. The breeder is NPiP certified, but I may double check that now.

I see no obvious signs of mites, poop looks normal. I will keep her quarantined and I hope we can bond with time. I couldn’t leave her there.

When I had my Red Production hens, they had shiny feathers and bright red combs. I gave 3 to a friend, due to hen disagreements. Their combs faded and they looked awful within a few months. All shade and a hard, packed down dirt to live on.

So are you marking off the days on a calender?
Are you going to "look" at the bin chicks while you're there?

:pop:pop:pop
Now that's it's April it's hard not to count! I'm bringing home 10 fuzz butts. With the loss of little Jelly Bean I thought about grabbing another cause that would bring my total to 30. :eek:Not sure though. I certainly don't need another rooster and that's what I seem to pick.

Welcome back!
That poor hen. :(
She is a lucky girl to have found you.
I have several that scream bloody murder when picked up. :hmm I have never been mean to them so .

Yeah. :hmm You gotta wonder if they don't toss a lot of males in those bins too.

You could call them and add a specific additional one to your order. There's still time. :p

A few of my bigger girls don't want to be held but usually settle quickly. My Bantam Cochins don't seem to mind at all and will sit on my arm and chat with me.
Princess Frannie and I had a lovely conversation this afternoon.
The D'Uccle girls remind me of pigeons. Very flighty but calm once held. They were not happy getting their noses wiped 3x a day. Clayton seeks attention. I go in the coop and he hops right up to my level and watches what I'm doing. Doesn't mind a pet or chest scratch.

I remember how much you wanted another little hobo. ;)

I think they are cute even when still MOIST.
Yes! And i'd almost given up but you can see why, crazy me never even thought an ice queen hen even existed. They are cute moist, most newborn things are cute and moist lol!:gig

Picture!!!

I let all the chickens and chicks out for a while today. The rooster was trying to show the chicks a treat. Sweet baby! All the older ones were great with the bitties. Hopefully integrating won’t be any trouble in the future. There is just hardware cloth in between them, so they see each other all day.

Late to the party but...

Sassy!! So glad to see you!!!! Welcome back. :hugs
