Always good when they are ok in the mornings.
I lost my light Brahma Jasmine overnight.
She had been having heart issues for quite some time. She was 5+ years old.
It's ok. I expected to lose her.
It doesn't matter how expected a loss is, it's still sad. :hugs At least she had a good long life with you.

The Milk Drinker slept through the night again. It was nice to have two nights of solid sleep!

We were planning to leave on Monday for a couple days at the beach before I have to head back to work on the 16th, but we decided to stay home, recover, clean the house and pack more leisurely for going to work. We can go on vacation another time.

I’ve also made a decision to really cut back on my chicken population. I’m going to rehome all but my broodies, EEs and Dark Cornish breeding stock. I’ll pick up on breeding the Cornish again next year. I think, moving forward, I’ll get leghorn pullets for eggs and just work on my Cornish.

It may have been expected but it is still hard. :hugs
Do you feel like a new woman having gotten some decent sleep?
Are you going to be able to move the birds over to your property before winter or will you have to keep them in your dad's barn again?

I found a Deathlayer gone this morning. Was roosting last night and on the floor this morning.

So that’s 3 losses... no more in the group of Squatchers.
So sorry for your loss! I agree, rule of 3 - we should be good for a while!

Dang Nunny. :hugs
I am super sorry. I know you wanted to breed them too. :(

Peanut is off the best today so that is a positive.

I ordered toys, a collar, id tag and feed dish for River. If we get the one I want I will be thrilled! That tiny baby is already at less than 2 weeks old 1 pound 14 ounces.
How long until you can take it home, 8 weeks old or is it longer for pups?

To clarify the 3 losses was amongst the group of us. Just 1 for me. I still have 3 deathlayers. Looks like 2 boys and a girl.
I will get more in the spring. As tempted as I am now I know it's not a good idea with winter coming.

Still have the Swedish Flowers!

Your flowers are beautiful!
I read that we're supposed to have a carp winter (but who really knows)... I'm not looking forward to it at all!

Mine was an expected loss....for quite some time actually. As bummed as I am at losing such a nice bird I am glad she lived a long time.

That puppy will be a whopping 8 weeks old when she comes home.
Little bundle of wrinkle faced drool factory lol.

I feel pretty good. I didn’t even have to pump this morning! I’ve been getting decent sleep for a while because the Milk Drinker usually only woke once a night. Generally speaking it was easy to get back to sleep. Now I’m sleeping more solidly. Rather than having him co sleep right next to me, I’ve moved him into a crib I have attached to our bed as a sidecar and both he and I are sleeping more soundly. I’m just glad to have my hugging pillow back.

The current plan is to turn an old metal pipe framed carport into a coop before winter. We have tin we can use for the roof, wire to use along the sides and can use greenhouse plastic to let in lots of sunlight while keeping out the wind. It will be a temporary shelter that will be much larger than what my dad has in his barn (they’ll use it for some birds I’m giving them). And closer to our house. I’m planning to set up RV hoses that collapse when not under pressure with quick connect joints so the animals can be watered more easily. This fall, I’m going to have the pigs butchered and get two more barrows. The AGH can be fed almost exclusively on scraps and grow slowly so we come out way ahead on the meat. Honestly, if I had to pick one animal to keep all the time, it’s pigs. Lard hogs specifically.

Such a contrast out there, one group of pretty little chickens and one group of molters which they look baaaad.
I'm glad they can't see themselves, so much pink out there! :D

These are so cute!:love

They have mastered the square!
They finally understand it goes all the way around both directions lol!
It only took two days, and a few still want higher but nope.
Nobody gets a high roost, too much sumo now, I could handle one but not four.
They still have four foot high, plenty good, no ends to fall off perfect distance from the wall so butt balance without being squished at least on two sides.
The old and large seem to like those sides thank goodness.:)
