14/15 still and she seems to be doing well. There is one that is being a bully still. Not often. My wife and I think that one is a rooster. He/she just seems to stand taller and is the biggest. At night when they were sleeping and accidentally hit the cage and he/she was the only one to stand up and kept watch until I left lol. The rest have been awsome. Some are even helping the injured at times. I noticed some food had been piled up in front of her this morning when I went in to check on them. So I do believe these 14 will continue to thrive. Will keep posting daily pictures of growth until grass day. Thanks for everyone's interest in the Speckled Sussex and I hope yall enjoy BYC
All are doing very well. They have all learned how to use the watering nipples. I strongly recommend these because they create such little mess and are cheap. They also prefer the DIY milk jug feeder over the store bought red feeder.
Chick Update: All are thriving and doing very well!!! Will post some pictures in a few. The one is no longer hurt and is running around with the rest. They knocked over the water last night (what a mess) so I have switched over to only nipples. The chicks learned how to use them in 5min. My rooster (6-7months old) wont touch them. I suggest if you want to use the watering nipples start young.
I received 15 female Sapphire Gems from Hoover last Thursday morning. All are doing great and I didn't see any white head spots that would indicate they sent any roos.
That is great news! I am very pleased with my order with them. Please feel free to post here all you want about them I believe the only reason I lost one was it got too cold in the post office. It wasnt hatchery, delivery, or anything else. I think she simple just couldn't recover from the po. a/c. Would love an update on your chicks as they progress.
