Before I do this, I wanted to make sure it was ok. I want to offer oyster shell as an option for 3 older bantams I have in the pen with 6 ten week old RIRs. Could I just get some shells and smash them with a hammer until they are fine enough for the chickens to eat? The Bantam's eggs are just a little soft, and I need to get a source ofr calcium since I have to feed them the grower feed.

Thanks

You can buy oyster shell for chickens at any feed store. They come as little, hard grey flakes. You will not need to smash them. The chickens can eat them as they come.
