What a great idea ... and an equally great how-to article. Very well done, all the way around!

Cabbage is a great distractor - but make sure you stick around to watch for awhile or you'll miss a really fun time!
In the meantime, you may want to check your spelling. I think you meant "wrapping?"

This is a great idea for re-purposing an existing playhouse. Lots of people have them standing around their back yards but don't know how to go about converting them. If you could include some details (and possibly pictures) of how you adapted and predator-proofed a playhouse to go from being safe for kids to being safe for chickens, it would be very helpful.
My own coop is a converted playhouse - you've inspired me into cleaning it up and posting it, too. It's still a playhouse ... mine!

Thanks! The playhouse is a solid wood structure with tile inside (not what I would have picked, but it was here before me). We added roosts inside and 3 nesting boxes. My husband built the run around it and we added sand, which was a great choice for drainage issues, and we'll be reinforcing with plexi-glass roof soon to keep out rain, along with screening on the windows. The chicken wire is actually buried about a foot out from the enclosure; I plan on planting some marigolds there. Always open to suggestions as well!

This coop has a "different" look to it than most - and I like it! I would like to see a bit more on how you predator-proofed it.

At night we put them in the coop and close the door and it also always has a hotwire around it we also have the great Pyrenees that protects them the door in the run closes and any animal that touches the hotwire won't come back to the coop. The hotwire is a pretty high voltage hotwire.

This is a very attractive coop, but there isn't much information on it, yet. Once you include your build pictures and some commentary, this will be a nice article. I look forward to seeing your expanded notes. Very pretty!

Please post an update or two - even if it's just a simple "before" picture to start the article. The short info is a great attention grabber ... We wanna see more!

This coop is wonderful! I love the litter-box style nest boxes - very convenient and easy to clean. Some how-to tips and maybe a sketch or two that would help someone recreate this really nice set-up would go a long way!

Very thorough & nice pictures. I learned something new ... about not being allowed to feed meat scraps to UK chickens. I'll bet the dogs are happy!

This is a really nice coop - basic but with a touch of American Craftsman style that really steps it up. There is not much in the way of how-to, but the pictures more than make up for it. The link to pre-build plan critique is a nice bonus. Well done!

Great pics & a great reuse of found and leftover materials. You may want to put in some wider roosts (at least sideways 2X4s) but otherwise it's a great little set-up. Your budget-friendly coop is liable to get some people thinking about doing the same, so adding some how-to pointers would be a big help to someone wanting to attempt scrapping together something similar on their own. Very cool!

what do you mean by adding more roosts? the coop is 4 feet wide and i put old broom handles(4 of them) through the fence
i guess you cant see them from my pictures. I had to barrow a camera from a friend to take pics. I'm no photagrapher lol

It looks like a decent set-up. Do you plan to connect the coop to the run at some point?

Yes I do! I need to get some strong guys over to carry it over to the run. It is so heavy!!! I am also going go add some better pictures so it shows some better angles and the like of the coop. Thanks for rating it! You are awesome!!!

I like the suggestion of taking the hen into the house, or possibly some other curiosity-stimulating place. It would make a great distraction.

This has some good, easily do-able suggestions for keeping your chickens cool in hot, arid areas. The evaporative cooler is a new one on me, but it sure is interesting. Unfortunately, it's not efficient in humid areas, like the eastern half of the US.

Great use of a ready-made do house. God diagrams included. Looks easy to keep up and clean. My only concern would be predator proofing, but that would be very easy to add. Very nicely done.!

Good set-up. Nice use of an open shed. Very good tips for year-round weather, especially winterizing. Does not appear to have any predator proofing, so adding notes on how that is handled would be a big help.

I didn't mention it, as we will be changing this soon, but we have electric fencing all the way around the building. Right now it is single strand wire, on T-posts, and there are 4 strands. Now that the gates have been hung, we will have electric netting around the building, two low wired across each entrance gate and a high wire to prevent climbing over. The climbing wire goes on the exterior panels, as well as each individual pen.
The ground at the base of the metal building, and under all of the fence panels has been poured over with concrete, so they can't dig.

This is a really nice set-up, especially for colder regions. There is a readily available plan source - Chicken Coops for Dummies - so it would be easy to replicate. There is a very good picture of how to run underground conduit for wiring to the coop. The author notes, with good cause, that the extended run is definitely required for enough space. There is a very good "What I would do differently" update where some very good improvements are listed.
All in all, a very nice little coop and a very helpful article!
