Good article, and a reminder to all of us that the fellas aren't the only ones who need a little bit of retraining now and again!

This has some good, easily do-able suggestions for keeping your chickens cool in hot, arid areas. The evaporative cooler is a new one on me, but it sure is interesting. Unfortunately, it's not efficient in humid areas, like the eastern half of the US.

Yes,It works great in dry climates but not in areas with high humidity. Thanks for the review!

Great use of a ready-made do house. God diagrams included. Looks easy to keep up and clean. My only concern would be predator proofing, but that would be very easy to add. Very nicely done.!

Nice pics, not much how-to detail, but absolutely the BEST EXPLANATION OF CHICKEN MATH I've ever come across!

Good set-up. Nice use of an open shed. Very good tips for year-round weather, especially winterizing. Does not appear to have any predator proofing, so adding notes on how that is handled would be a big help.

I didn't mention it, as we will be changing this soon, but we have electric fencing all the way around the building. Right now it is single strand wire, on T-posts, and there are 4 strands. Now that the gates have been hung, we will have electric netting around the building, two low wired across each entrance gate and a high wire to prevent climbing over. The climbing wire goes on the exterior panels, as well as each individual pen.
The ground at the base of the metal building, and under all of the fence panels has been poured over with concrete, so they can't dig.

This is a really nice set-up, especially for colder regions. There is a readily available plan source - Chicken Coops for Dummies - so it would be easy to replicate. There is a very good picture of how to run underground conduit for wiring to the coop. The author notes, with good cause, that the extended run is definitely required for enough space. There is a very good "What I would do differently" update where some very good improvements are listed.
All in all, a very nice little coop and a very helpful article!

This is a great little coop, but not a great article ... yet! Some how-to text and some notes on how you handled potential problems, like run-off from that steep slope behind it, would go a long way. I really like this little coop (and its' tenants!) and would really like to see more!

This is a wonderful coop design, especially for the colder northern regions. The huge picture window is perfect for ventilation and easily covered in winter. VERY nicely done!

Very nice job! There isn't much here on how it was built, but it doesn't really detract from the article, because the pictures show most of the build. LOVE the "Building Inspector!"

These are really good ideas. Some instructions n how to do some of these creative conversion ideas would be helpful. The side run with the lift-up top is really nice - but the snap off ramp and the hatch to the second story are inspirations!

This is handy. I sure would like to see one for the East Coast or Mid West regions - and I'm sure others could use them for wherever they live.

Very nice set-up and lots of great pictures. Some instructions or hints on how and why some things were done would be helpful - especially the steep-slope run.

This is a great-looking coop - and the run has nice style, as well. Since it's made from pallets, I'm thinking you built it yourself, but it looks professional. Can you please give us some pointers on building this beautiful coop?

Thank you so much, yes my handyman husband built it using a free plan design I found online from MyOutdoorPlans.com its 4ft by 8ft and the Pallet idea was mine- we had a few lying around. He fully insulated the walls and then covered them with the pallets. we used a 9x10 piece of linoleum from Lowes for the floor :) we have a fenced in back yard where the coop is for extra security from predators. Being in Alaska we have all sorts of critters that come around our woods.

This is a pretty basic set-up for areas with mild-ish winters. There aren't a lot of instructions, but the descriptions given and the loads of pictures would make it an easy coop to recreate. I would never have thought to use cement sheeting, but it makes a lot of sense for predator proofing. Very nicely done!

We didn't use cement fibre sheeting because it is good for predator proofing intensionally, we just used it because, like Mount Everest, it was there. [in our garage, left over from another DIY project]

This is an awesome redo of an old out-building. The "before" picture is a nice, rustic scene, but the "afters" - Wow! The rustic style stayed, but with a major upgrade! Lots of great diagrams and elevation sketches. LOVE the Plexiglas window treatment for the door! This is inspiration ... I want to move in!

Edit - 12/15/18 - Nice update to an already great article. I wonder if anyone will miss the chipmunk?

Excellent article - well documented in pictures and text. It takes the family's chickens from the original wagon-brooder through various upgrades, including a run spurred on by a hawk attack. It ends with a new chick hatched ... after the rooster has to be sent away to another farm. Read it through, because "Saffron" definitely gets in the last word and it's priceless!

This has the markings of a good, solid coop, but it's hard to ell, because the pictures and descriptions are a bit sparse. Some interior shots and some details on how things like ventilation and predator proofing were handled would really bump this up!

This is a very nice coop and article. The plans, while a bit light to read clearly, appear solid and pretty complete. The coop itself is a nice size and solidly built. The pictures show good construction detail. Very nicely done ... right down to the ... ummm ... carpet? Interesting touch!
