Okay guys, it's been a long long while since I've been on here...had a lot catching up to do! I have a favor: any practical advice for a newbie with an incubator? I've had hens for two years now (strictly backyard flock for eggs and entertainment) but I think I'm ready to hatch some on my...

Hello All!! It's been a long while since I've been on and I have a quick question: does anyone here process their own chickens? I remember someone mentioning it but I can't remember who! My husband and I want to be able to do this but not sure how to start...

Okay everyone - I have a ....thing (not sure if it's a problem or not) but I really have no idea what's going on. One morning a month or so ago I noticed that one of my BO girls had a patch on the side of her neck, maybe 3 inches long and 2 wide, of missing feathers on her neck. There were no...

Now I feel like an idiot and my husband has just landed himself on the naughty list. Guess who decided to plant eggs yesterday?? Tomorrow I will laugh, today I'm planning revenge.

I'm sorry CarolJ! I have an odd question/situation. I have Buff Orpingtons and Australorps laying. They have almost completely stopped with the shorter days so hubby installed a light with timer to lengthen their "days". Now, both are brown egg layers - last night I found two green eggs in...

Hello all! It's been a while since I've been on..... you guys have been BUSY!!! The girls are all doing well although they sure have cut back on the egg-laying. I have an "other" poultry question for you... does anyone here have ducks? Hubby wants to add ducks in the next year or so and we...

CarolJ - Cute picture!! Okay - question for you all. During the winter do you put a light in the coop to "lengthen" the day? The girls will be outside almost every day.

Quote: Saturday afternoon? The times when we have met at 4:00 seemed to have worked out well. I don't have any chickens to trade and my husband would kill me if I snuck in more. BUT would love to see everyone. I guess all that was to say it doesn't matter to me if we eat or just sit and gab.

Citygirl - have you tried the extension office in rutherford county? They have all sorts of classes from baking to canning. With their emphasis on simpler living and knowing where your food comes I think your program would be a shoo-in!! Worth a shot.
