Big Day Friday

In a response to @WhoDatChick above I alluded to family challenges recently. I have decided to share. You are all so wonderful I feel I need to do so.

I will not be posting much on the flock this weekend as I am with my daughter, her husband, and my 3 month old granddaughter, Eve.View attachment 1886175
Little 7 lb Eve (the same size as Hattie) has a hole in her heart and will be having open heart surgery tomorrow around lunchtime here. If all goes well they will close the hole and she will grow up a normal little girl. The surgery has a high success rate but it's still my little grandbaby. I will post again so everyone knows the outcome but I wanted my chicken family to know.

Its been a crazy couple of months. Hopefully all goes well and things start to move forward again for us.
Oh gosh Bob! She is so precious and I am so glad you shared! Sorry this sweet one has to deal with that... and the rest of you too :hugs
I pray that sweet little Eve will make a full recovery and a long happy life...... will be praying...

I am very grateful for your support. It is not easy to share like this but I could not see how to not do so. It is effecting everything in our lives right now including the flock. They are spending another weekend with no free ranging. Poor girls.

:hugs Xs 2 to what everyone else has said, adding my prayers to the chain for sweet beautiful Eve

Worming our two cats is hell... both of us have to psyche ourselves up for it and just accept it will not be pleasant!

I use a pipette with wormer liquid in it to squeeze onto the backs of our cats' necks and it soaks in. 2 pipettes in a pack and I buy it in the supermarket. It's meant to be monthly but I lose track of time... :idunno Seems to work! :) However, I'm in Oz and you're in the UK, your supermarkets may not stock such a thing.

The Purple Ones Tastest the Bestest

Sticking to the theme of what chickens like to eat, I bought them cracked corn which includes both yellow and purple corn. I first noticed with Hattie that she would eat the purple ones and throw the yellow ones to the ground to find more people ones. When all the people corn was gone, she would stop eating and expect me to get more from the bag. She would flick the yellow corn off my hand with her beak until it was empty so I would get her more purple. I got video of Maleficent doing the same thing, picking the purple ones out. Can they really taste that different?

My almost-three-and-a-half Isa Brown Lucy LOVES purple stuff! Blueberries, red/black grapes, red cabbage etc, she sees it, she’s on it like a seagull on a chip. Whereas my nine-month old Australorp pullet Charlie, if I put down purple food she’s like “Meh, whatevs! Where’s the strawberries?!” :lau

She's adorable. Look at that cute little baby blep (tongue sticking out)!

I hope the operation goes smoothly and she's happy and bouncing in no time. All the best to you and your family Bob :fl:love:hugs
