Stalking the Cheese

On Easter Mrs BY Bob brought out a platter of cheese and grapes for us to share under the magnolia. Hattie knew right away that there was good food available but she never said a word.

First she tried sneaking up on the side. Luckily i noticed her and I actually moved my coffee cup to block her access to the cheese.

Seeing that I had seen her, she then moved around to the back. Sad for her she could not reach anything from the back.

So she decided on the direct approach, came around the front, and stared at us until we shared. Which we gladly did. :love

She told no one else what was going on. It was our secret. ;)
The look of chagrin on her face from behind the coffee cup! :lau

I'm glad you are training her to be an honest chicken and ask politely from the front ! 😂😍

2 is Better than 1

2 ladies having a "hole" lot of fun

Twice as much fun on my lap tonight. :love

Brave Squirrel

The squirrel was back today. He got to the feeder while Lilly was discussing under the coop right behind Hattie in the picture. Rather than disrupt her bath she dispatched Hattie. Hattie was just turning around in this photo. She ran over and chased the squirrel away.

This squirrel thinks it's smart. It better be careful.

Look at that!! They adore you :love
So funny that your gals chase squirrels... mine freeze when one enters their yard!

Poor Alice is still losing feathers. :barnie

Her mop top hair do is turning into a punk spiked affair.

On the plus side, some of her back and side quills have burst at the end now. Perhaps she will have some decent coverage and look more like a chook and less like a pincushion by this time next week :fl

Beware. Alice progress pics below.

"Why do you keep chasing me around with a camera mum?"

Closer look at her back. If you zoom in you can see some of the ends of the quills have tufts on the ends!

Never mind the dinosaur... she is a porcupine!!

Hattie is actually the most patient and polite of all the ladies. She does not push, shove, steal from others or peck. She waits patiently and I always make sure she gets her share and probably more. ;)

i Have a soft spot for the polite ones too, Bob. :)

I've just agreed to give Knocks 3 young ones away to a young man I know who lives a bit further up the mountain.
I've had a few inquiries from people over the past few weeks looking for chickens. I can only keep so many, so when someone comes along who I believe will take good care of them, it's a wonderful opportunity.
I've known this young man for a number of years. His family are circus people. They will live in a run but the run is 10 metres by 5 metres and it's hawk proof. He is going to take over from his father in training the chickens for the circus. Their last rooster died a few months ago at 9 years old.
I'm typing up the history for these three along with picture of their mum, grandmother and great grandmother plus all the dads of course.

Particularly love that middle picture. I think she looks a bit happier than she did in the earlier pictures.

Are you joking about the circus training? Because from what I see in the backyard, training isn't necessary ;)
