Are you joking about the circus training? Because from what I see in the backyard, training isn't necessary ;)
No, I'm not joking. This circus (Circ Cric) has had chickens in a number of shows. This young mans father is very good with them. Chickens are the only animal apart from a horse in the shows. They get very well cared for and as chicken lives go, it's very adventurous.
I'm going up the mountain on Sunday to help make the run more interesting.

It's a far cry from Shad-style free ranging, but it sounds like a great option!

Poor Alice is still losing feathers. :barnie

Her mop top hair do is turning into a punk spiked affair.

On the plus side, some of her back and side quills have burst at the end now. Perhaps she will have some decent coverage and look more like a chook and less like a pincushion by this time next week :fl

Beware. Alice progress pics below.

"Why do you keep chasing me around with a camera mum?"

Closer look at her back. If you zoom in you can see some of the ends of the quills have tufts on the ends!

I am sorry. I still can’t bear to look at her. She looks so, so miserable.

I've just agreed to give Knocks 3 young ones away to a young man I know who lives a bit further up the mountain.
I've had a few inquiries from people over the past few weeks looking for chickens. I can only keep so many, so when someone comes along who I believe will take good care of them, it's a wonderful opportunity.
I've known this young man for a number of years. His family are circus people. They will live in a run but the run is 10 metres by 5 metres and it's hawk proof. He is going to take over from his father in training the chickens for the circus. Their last rooster died a few months ago at 9 years old.
I'm typing up the history for these three along with picture of their mum, grandmother and great grandmother plus all the dads of course.

Just so long as part of the deal is he sends you occasional photos!

That is great news. I'm very happy for them. They are going to be stars!

Today's Weather was Rediculous

How often do you see crystal clear pool water and snow! It is crazy here this spring. The ladies ran for cover when the snow started. They were only to be found huddling under the coop.

Once the snow stopped, they came over to let me know that it was cold out and they needed some corn to warm up.
