He probably thinks those laces are wormsCan anyone tell me why Jaffar likes to peck at my shoe laces? I’m getting tired of tying them up every time he does it!

This is something I would really like to getIt charges with a USB port and lasts an amazingly long time when fully charged - for sure it will last most of the night.
It was @micstrachan who set me on it - I am not sure I have the exact same one as hers as I got one without the misting option.
This is the one I got - I am ordering a second one. I use it for myself when it is very hot out - I clip it to the wheelbarrow for example.

My partner dragged me on a three day vacation in the mountains to take a break from all the chicken dramaSo good to hear from youI was worried we wouldn’t hear from you.
I was very concerned about both her and Hattie for some time. The jump forward with Gucci the last few days has given me hope but there still seems to be a long way to go to be where she can take care of herself.
I have about 8 weeks until we have to go away for a long weekend for a wedding. I really need her to be going to bed on her own at that point. It could be a real problem because with them all locked in together the big girls are going to need access to the big run. I have about a month before I have to start mixing them together in order to meet that deadline.![]()
It's always stressful to have a timing for such things, but I'm confident that Gucci will make progress. As seen from the way she gets out, she's able to do quite a lot if she wants to! I think she needs to be really motivated , to make the effort of compensating her leg's weakness. Before I read your next post I was going to suggest creating food based motivation to go roosting but now I don't believe it will be necessaryProgress Continues
No video and no pictures because it all just happened on its own. But it is great news!
Gucci did the ramp on her own tonight!
TWICE!
We were outside enjoying the cool temps when it started raining again. So I hustled Glynda and Lady Featherington into the Big Run and picked up Gucci and placed her onto the end of the ramp. Up she went, slowly and deliberately but up none the less. No encouragement or guidance from me.
Once on the porch she called everyone else to join her but neither would come. They fussed around for a while and Gucci around up falling off the porch.
So I scooped her up and put her on the end of the ramp again. This time she went right up like it was no big deal at all. She called to everyone else and went into the coop on her own.
Like it was no big deal.
Lady Featherington then joined her in the coop and Glynda followed. Just like it should be at night. Tomorrow night I will wait to see if she finds her own way to the ramp. I'm so very happy and proud of her.
Lea was a french rock hit in 1997.Lovely. Lea (or Leah) is on my list of possible chicken names. One of my grandmothers was called Leah. The other was called Aunty Minnie (not her real name). So I was thinking maybe I need to balance out the grandmothers!
I’m so sorry RC, I felt exactly this way with Penguin and then Lottie. I’ve got behind again as I’ve been unwell but will try to catch up. Crossing my fingers for some better news.I just want to warn you that I sense I am about to descend into doom, gloom, frustration and sadness and I will need all your help to pick myself up.
First Bella.
Now there is a lash egg in a nest box. It was small and half buried so although I think it was 'laid' there yesterday I cannot be sure I didn't miss it the day before. I have cameras but no definitive proof of who laid it. From the footage it seems like Maggie is the most likely suspect, but it is not certain. She has laid lash eggs before (almost 2 years ago) and does use that box. And she did go into it for a while yesterday. On the other hand she seems fine and perky as normal. Diana who hasn't put a shell on an egg in months and is a high production breed seems a more likely candidate but she definitely has not been in that nest box in quite a while.
Dotty is poorly. She is sitting a lot and with tail down. She has been the only one laying and now hasn't in a few days (but it has been hot). I have had a look at her - externally only - and I don't feel an egg from the outside. I don't see her pumping her tail. I have given her calcium anyway just in case and if she doesn't perk up I will give her an internal exam as well. Could she have laid the lash egg? It isn't her usual nest box, but things have been a bit topsy turvey on that front so maybe.
Oh, and I have mice and cannot figure how they are getting in.
So, anxiety peaks again. Should I give antibiotics because of the lash egg? Should I assume it is Maggie as the only evidence I have points to her? Or Dotty who is the only one sick?
UGH - why are chickens so damn difficult to keep healthy?
Well I hope your little Lea turns out not to be a terrorist either. But she is a chicken, so that may be asking a lot!Lea was a french rock hit in 1997.
It's hard to translate the songs as it's based on puns, but it lists a whole number of things Lea is NOT.
I love the idea of giving grand mother's names to hens! Unfortunately my own grandmas and grandpas had the ugliest old french names ever.
Your chicken and cat show is pretty entertaining. Who knew chickens were so funny and had such big personalities!Someone has been Sneaking Chickens into My House.
I came out of my office unexpectedly the other day and I found these on the floor in the dining room.

Clearly someone had been shooed out before they could finish. Then yesterday I caught the culprit red beaked.

Of course that was no surprise. With me however came Enzo. He of course was curious as to what this was in his house.
Phyllis and Enzo started circling each other. I did not get great video of that but you can imagine it from the photos and the video catches it just as they do the circling.

Once it reached the point in the video where they were no longer moving, I was getting concerned that Enzo might actually get hurt and so I broke it up and ushered Phyllis outside.
I have a strong feeling that this has been going on for some time.
Well, there is a reason most of the hooligans have the names they have. Besides Wasabi and Siracha the rest including Ezzie are named after grandparents. My great-great Grandfather was named Ezra. Nellie is one of my great-grandmothers name. Grannie is after my other great-grandmother, that one is better then Melvinia, and everyone called her grannie anyway. Then we have Berthie, after another grandmother Bertha, and Lassie technically is a great-aunt of mine. If I had finished out the theme and not let Rosie have Wasabi and Siracha we would also have a Ruth and Eunice. Plus Rosie still ranting that I have not let her name a chicken Wasabi.Lea was a french rock hit in 1997.

It really is part of what makes them so special.Your chicken and cat show is pretty entertaining. Who knew chickens were so funny and had such big personalities!
