Freakishly lucky (if a little blurry) photo of Bernie leaping for a moth.

I love the pattern on this girl.
I don't know why but just want to hug her 🤗
Awww. Me too. But she is skittish around me. She probably remembers all those times I had to wrap her up and do stuff to get her leg working.
Hopefully in time she will come around to seeing me as a friend.

Inquiring minds want to know: did she get it?
I love watching mine leap for flying insects! I have to say, though, it almost looks like Bernie is levitating - usually mine use their wings, too - or look gangly or awkward while doing so!

Yup. The moth is no more.
It is a busy evening at the Chicken Palace. The hawk has wandered off (the crows returning may have something to do with that) and so the ladies are foraging further afield. The long dry grass has seed heads at the top, and there is a cloud of small grey moths flitting around the tops of the grass clumps.
Everyone is going nuts for the seeds and the moths.
Maggie and Bernie have a clear height advantage and do more of a tippy toe stretch and jump, Diana and Lulu use their wings more.
I love watching Bernie leap - such confidence in those tootsies!

They almost look like a Colombian wyandotte crossed with a Rhode island or new Hampshire red. Very pretty!

Edit:
Playing with the genetics calculator again, a RIR roo x Colombian wyandotte hen could generate those colors. Other way around pops white with red shoulders or light yellow birds.
@RebeccaBoyd & @rural mouse ; Looking at Hoover's site, it must be the Cinnamon Queen. Their version is a RIR roo x SLW hen. They show a cinnamon queen hen with a single comb, but some must get the comb from the SLW (though your hens look more like a strawberry comb than a rose comb) However, this seems to be the only logical breed given Hoover's advertised breeds. 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️

Well, they were sold as Cinnamon Queens. They just ended up looking so different to any other pictures of Cinnamon's that I had been able to find. Due to the recent dog attacks and subsequent lockdown for a few days I've had to really work hard on rebuilding their trust. It did not phase the attention seeking orps. The Queens were always just a little bit more standoffish and now are even more flighty. It is ok, we will get back to where we used to be in time.
