I also forgot to mention Wednesday when I sold the last of the available eggs they went to my cousin who hatched off chicks from my own flock. I asked her how they were doing and she snickered and said I did not want to know that answer. She then told me she had 11 chicks she kept, they are a week older then Lilly except the silkie which is 4 weeks older then Lilly. Of her 11 keepers, 9 are pullets, including the silkie. It is not fair I tell you.

Okay but isn’t the relevant question how many eggs from you in total did she hatch, and of that, how many cockerels, or likely cockerels, did she not keep?

Sorry to hear that 😊

No, really, I am!!! 😊

No, simply because those are boy names. If I have to do this, think girls people, girls.
Candy, Trixie, Punkin, Caramel, Apple, Squash (:idunno), Autumn, Leaf, Crispy, Cider, Cookie, Equinox, Maze, Cranberry, Copea (corno-), Basket, Corn.....how many eggs are getting set?

Nope, I put a stop to the house laying and she resorted back to the porch. So she will set on the porch this time around. I know what mom is thinking in letting her hatch. Really it is grandma who wants her to hatch again. Her health is declining steadily, she does not know it, but some of the tests they are doing is looking for cancer. She has been in congestive heart failure now for 15 years, that is also worsening at a rapid speed since the stroke. Yes, she still can drive us crazy half the time. The chickens seem to be one of the few things anymore that make her truly happy, especially the mommas and babies. I think it is terrible timing for me to have a hen hatch. I do not know or honestly think that she will be able to see them hatch next year. I pray that I'm wrong, but this steady decline is alarming.
It’s a nice thing you are doing, I know winter is coming on and I know what it’s like to have chicks in chilly weather, but my kiddos survived just fine - and hopefully you will get all pullets!! 😊❤️

These Princesses crack me up.
Bed time. Diana has claimed the best spot and Maggie is snuggled up close. This is their strategy to keep the best spot for themselves.
Bernadette is using her full height to assess the situation

Bernadette makes her move!

It is the sideways shuffle that makes me laugh.
