I am tempted to borrow the silkie Roo where I keep the horses to breed my silkies and get fertile eggsI love that little hen. Every time I see her she brings back memories of my little Poppy who I miss terribly.
That’s great! What a nice hidie hole!
Next time you visit your girls we need pictures of this mystery roo. Well I do at least.I am tempted to borrow the silkie Roo where I keep the horses to breed my silkies and get fertile eggs
I would love to send you some if I get a chance![]()
So when my chicks were 4 weeks old I was very happy, thought that out of the 13 total chicks I only had 3 boys. Well, it is my flock and we all know my girls could never let me have a 50/50 ratio or one even better leaning towards girls. The chicks are older and I've been silently crying for about 2 weeks. Every single chimpmunk chick that seemed like a girl for so long, nope.....they are boys, all of them darn it. Final count, 5 girls and 8 boys. Still heavily screwed to the male average using new hens as well. I GIVE UP![]()

They look wonderfulHere's today pics an hour and a half after I opened the coop this morning. Most of the youngsters are still outside. Pear, Nellie, Storm, and Twirp all came out, ate, and went back inside to preen. Thing has been staying put near the nest boxes. She's not broody, but is on my watch list (even though she's low enough I'd have to pet cage her to keep the others from adding to a nest). She's sweet and entirely too gentle (watch her turn up broody and be like Rebecca's Momma hen).
I'm seeing some frost damage on some (but not all) combs and on the boys wattles. Surprisingly Hector (largest comb) has the least amount of comb damage of those with damage. How that will eventually heal up remains to be seen. I'm leaving those well enough alone. Frostbite is best left untouched, so I'm not going to inflict more pain on them to feel it all up. Cheetah has lost (or broken off) his last flag tail feather, but was staying up on the roost (with Jessica and PITA). His hackle feathers were looking FANTASTIC last night when I closed the coop, so moult is getting close to finishing up.View attachment 3358410View attachment 3358412View attachment 3358414View attachment 3358415View attachment 3358416View attachment 3358417View attachment 3358419

When I went out to AB they had a brood of babies who are I guess a couple months old now.Next time you visit your girls we need pictures of this mystery roo. Well I do at least.
Yes the first 2 was my sweet Poppy. Branch is the final pic. I wanted to try to recreate it this year but cannot find the elf hat. I stole it from Rosie's elf on the shelf, well.......where did I put that thing last year. We also did not manage to get a tree up until 2 days ago. Did not have time for the big one or the space with grandma here. That and well....at times you could call me and mom both Scrooges or The Grinch.Awwwwww this is Poppy right? she was such a cutie pie and yes looks just like Marty.
