I went out with the camera for a few minutes.
First off we have Momma Hen relaxing with 3 of her 4. The other one prefers to sunbath alone.

Chiquita and the Marshmallows. It is just as hard to photograph a white chick as it is a black chick.

They are so cute and getting so big. It amazes me how fast they grow.

Whiskey dropped the black from his comb. He's gotten a bit more assertive too.View attachment 3403653

Isn't my beard beautiful!
Aww poor wee fella - cold is hard on chickens sometimes.

Yes her beard is awesome!
Yes, a few have been known to definitely try to pick them up with wing. As you can see, they aren't always successful.
They DO try to 'poach' the eggs by rolling them with their beak/head to 'their' nest box. And I think you remember the hen that was 'stealing' my eggs I set on a table...rolling them to her and tucking them in!. .and she wasn't even broody!

I've caught ducks doing this, too, when broody. Stealing eggs from one nest and rolling them all the way across the coop to their nest box. My husband didn't believe me. He thought he was going nuts when he had seen some eggs in the nest...then they weren't there. I told him: you have to check the broody ducks nest...they steal them - well, next day, he caught the duck red handed beaked rolling the eggs to their nest. Those two co-broody ducks were/are a hoot!
:lau :gig:lau

But, I love them all - ducks, chicks, geese, even if they are thieves and beggars!!:love🥰:love:love🥰 😆
When Curly, Fluffy and Henny were all together broody they would keep stealing the golf balls that where in the nest, one day on would have them, then there would be a golf ball under Curly, and one under Henny.... then Fluffy would pitch a fit and steal Curly's.... it was hilarious! And then Dorothy would go and lay her egg in with them! until she went Broody herself hahaha.

I don't mind them being broody, as long as I haul them off the nest a couple times a day to eat, drink, poop I am ok with them.
I've taken to packing Thing out of the coop and up by the garage where Cheetah has been eating breakfast to get her to actually be a chicken.View attachment 3403679 Her nails are getting over grown and she's been staying put. She's getting herself back to the coop just fine. This morning she actually went off to be a chickenView attachment 3403680View attachment 3403670She even did some scratching out there.View attachment 3403672Blanche came back and posed

View attachment 3403678View attachment 3403676View attachment 3403674Exploring the rose patch. At this point, I'm predicting that she will go broody in there, and I'm going to have to let her as I won't be able to fish her out without cutting the roses down to nothing.
Is it because she has trouble seeing with her topnot?

You don't have any snow - is that normal for this time of year?

Smart Hen
Hattie is now spending mornings here until things warm up a little.

I noticed that with my bossy girls also hanging out under the Sweet Heater - meanwhile the poor silkies don't get to spend time there! Gonna need another one next winter I guess.

I actually managed to get a few half decent chicken pictures Creamsicle’s beard is fully in and of course Sammy is always happy to pose for me.
