This was Fat Birds eye condition this morning before treatment. Yesterday it was completely covered in bubbly liquid and more swollen.
The eye got another rinse out. I use cotton wool soak in PH neutral eye wash and sort of dab and squeeze to flood the eye. Now it's less swollon I can see a small cut on the lower lid and another in the corner of the same eyelid. I administered a single drop of Oftalmowell eye treatment and off she went to join her tribe.
Just done her again this evening but can't get a decent picture. The eye is much better; more eyeball showing and the bubbles are gone. The small cut in the corner has bled a bit which is good because that will help clean it.

So probably a stick or something instead an infection. That is great news. You're right its very good that it bled. Good job catching and helping her out!

Give her a hug from me when you carry her next time. :hugs

Lilly is glad to hear she is doing better.

That is Lilly's happy face.

I appreciate your consideration of others Ali.

But it would be great to read what your hens have been up to lately :)

I tried a quick headcount and I think there must be 60-70 chickens kept by the byc friends so there will always be a sick (or worse) chook among us.
Wow. That many chickens. Wait is that actually a lot? What is the average number of chickens per poster? 🤔

With all the Phyllis photo-bombing I always forget how much I appreciate Lilly. I think she is one fine looking hen.

I was looking at her comb the other day and I think I've decided that I like hers best of everyone in the flock. It's not exactly straight like Hattie's. It has this cool wave in the middle.

She is very pretty. Especially so in the sunlight.

These days she is not doing a lot of crazy stuff so I don't take a lot of pictures of her. She really has become the rock of the flock.

They Grow Up so Fast

I will probably keep using that headline a lot. Tonight's lesson was just amazing. Mrs BY Bob both had tears in our eyes. It was so precious.

Somehow when Sydney took them to bed tonight, while Ned/Nanette made it with Sydney, Lucky got separated. She was all alone in the courtyard. Oddly she was not peeping in distress. She scratched around a little. Did not seemed panicked. Sydney kept calling her from in the coop.

For 10 minutes Lucky was on her own.

After a few minutes on her own she peeped but never that distress peep like when she was separated from Sydney before.

Lucky started in the courtyard between the coop and the big run by the birch tree.

Eventually she would work her way around the corner and under the coop.

From there she made her way back to the ramp.

Unfortunately, she passed the ramp and went into the big run, turned around, saw the ramp, and up she went.

Sydney never came out to get her and there was no panicking by anyone.

It was wonderful to see little Lucky puzzle it all out and Sydney let her. A few days ago Sydney would have never have left her out alone that long. I guess now she expects Lucky to figure it out.

Just amazing.

For anthropological purposes? I did a little anthropology. That was enough. They write the most appalling sentences! :lau
I picture you as our Jane Goodall now. I can't help it.

"Today I think I have found a way to reach the one that loves roosters. He was cuddling with one of his roosters. I cuddle with my escaped hens. This common behavior may be enough for me to form a bond with him. Maybe I can learn why he lives underground unlike the others......."
