Weird occurrence at bed time . I was putting the pups in the kennel and heard a commotion in the bantam coop next to the garage. This is Chinito's tribe. He is the frizzle bantam rooster. A different rooster and hen were putting a beat down on a third rooster. He was on the ground in the corner. They were pecking his head and neck strongly. I broke it up and brought him in our house. Not a bunch of blood but he was definitely punch drunk. Let him calm down tonight and do a thorough check tomorrow. He must have crossed the wrong bird but usually this group is very relaxed with no fighting.
I'm glad you heard and were able to intervene in time. To be clear, a hen was also putting a beat down on this rooster as well, right? That seems unusual to me. Is it?

Tina passed away on June 25th. Husband cried all day and I have never seen him cry since I met him. (I still haven't since I'm not home)

He was a wreck and did not want to talk to me for days, until he suspected honey had a sour crop issue.

He treated Honey with the protocol (cream for yeast infection). But the next day he confirmed Light has impacted crop. He cannot afford to lose light right now so his stress was through the roof. View attachment 3566409

Good news is that Honey is back to normal after three days treatment. Light has only improved slightly. The weird thing is that light is super energetic and full of life. She ate a bit today.

He also called vets around and was comforted to hear that he can always bring light to a vet in Raleigh (2 hours away) for having crop surgery if it comes down to that.

Im pretty sure light will be fine. I would appreciate if you can keep light in good thoughts.😟

Oh I miss my flock. I shouldn't be away for this long.

Hugs are for you and for your husband.
In case you hadn’t figured that out already, he is a keeper!

:hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs hugs to both you and your husband.

I'm hoping light improves without the need for crop surgery.!:fl

Does he know to give her something like coconut oil (frozen in this heat will also be a welcome cooling item for her) and to massage vigorously her crop?
If it is impacted, liquid foods like raw egg and baby chick food and baby human food (meat for protein) are all options.

Maybe @BY Bob or @RoyalChick will have additional suggestions.

@RoyalChick I think is our resident expert on impacted crops and crop massage.

Yes, that's what is confusing to me. The hen was as aggressive as the attacking rooster. I've never seen hen aggression on a rooster other than running off a hormonal juvenile that is too antsy. That could be the cause in this case or possibly roosting issue as it was 9 pm and dark already.

That is something. Please let us know what you see when you put him back. This is fascinating. A strange new behavior for me at least.

If he's OK tomorrow we'll put them all outside for a while then back into the pen together. I'll keep an eye out and will observe frequently to see if they attack him again.

Thank you for all the comfort. @RoyalChick @bgmathteach @BY Bob

I feel like I'm always benefiting from this thread way more than I contribute.

Thank you for the advice @bgmathteach he is massaging her a lot while giving her coconut oil. He thinks he was giving her too much at one point that light absolutely refused it. WILL NOT OPEN HER BEAK no matter how hard he tried.

I will tell him about raw egg, chick food and baby human food! Very helpful.
