Someone reported him for bringing a farm animal that isn't considered a service animal to the store. Geese and other farm animals aren't allowed in the store because they may distract service dogs that are trying to do their job.
Oooo yes I didn’t even think about that one.

I think if George had been a wee silkie (or other small hen) in a carrier or being carried by the owner, there isn’t an issue. But wandering around freely would not be good.

He sure was an awesome goose though! I would love to have a goose like that 😊

One look from Albert (chicken on the left perch), and Perry (on the right perch) says “No, no, no need to come over here- I’ll see myself out!” and proceeds to walk the plank right back out of the run.View attachment 3722239View attachment 3722241
Whiskey also scares Perry, but I scare Whiskey- so she’s usually pretty safe from her if I’m around.
If not for them, the other four girls are totally ready to let her integrate. They peck at her, but just in a plain ole teaching her her place in the flock sort of way. Not with the nasty double-foot high kick I’ve seen Albert land.

Otherwise, Albert has laid seven eggs total. Of those, only two had shells thick enough to not be broken upon dropping, and only one was laid in a nest. What do I do? The beautiful blue eggs are going to waste! Tums? I started giving her a private snack with ground eggshells in it, and the flock always has oyster shell available.
Awwww - well Perry will learn to stay clear of them I guess.

I am giving Larry half a regular people calcium at night, I haven’t seen a broken egg in a couple days so maybe it’s helping. I’ll take a photo of the calcium tonight when I get home from work.

Ok I need to get cracking here and do chores! Have an awesome day!

You can try dosing the water with liquid calcium to get even more in her.

Got a cold snap coming. Have high wind warning for this afternoon: 30-40 mph winds, gusts up to 65.

Forecasts end of week/ over the weekend: snow, high of single digits (+ or -) F, lows of -double digits, almost -20F.

For those on C thermometer, that's high of appox -17, lows of -30.

Fresh bedding into coop tomorrow, extra protein treats for hunting in the coop (including live mealworms), and birds will NOT want out in the cold.

Ooh. When did you start giving her the calcium? To gauge how long until it becomes effective. And does she eat it out of your hand, or are you putting it down her throat?

Eggshells tend to run thin in my flock- Becky’s and Quincy’s are also mighty thin. They, too, don’t seem to enjoy bulking up on oyster shell. Dottie, however, spends quite some time at the oyster cup in the evenings and when she does grace us with an egg it has a lovely shell.

Your eggs seem lovely- do you add calcium to their water? Or just layer feed and oyster shell?

Only two out of seven hens are laying right now though, so I’m going to avoid flock-wide calcium increases until that switches. Aaany day now :fl

Oh my good heavens. Those temperatures are crazy. Are they unusually low for your area?

No school today because of this storm. The winds are supposed to be really bad. School started again last Thursday. If anyone is getting hit by this storm, stay safe. Feel better @featherhead007!
No school tax: a picture I took last week. I’m pretty sure that this is the first picture I’ve ever taken of all ten chickens in one photo.

We are comparitively lucky with our weather. Snow, but just barely above freezing temps. It'll change to rain later. The threat of a power outage is ever present, though low for right now. Unless a car slides off the road into a power pole. It happens.

Next week, we could have low teens for highs, and single digits (above 0) for lows. The pullets will get their first taste of real Michigan winter. I'm hoping we get enough snow THAT STAYS to insulate the ground from the frigid temps. We had a winter like this in 1982 (65 on Christmas Day, then bitter cold, and snow on Memorial Day) and it killed all of a local orchard's peach trees.

Granted, peaches can be iffy in Michigan. Hoping the cold next week doesn't hurt local orchards, plants, and bees.

The winds have already picked up here. It’s 70F right now, but by morning it will be 40F. I can only hope that horses don’t colic. Lenny’s new home is getting slammed by the storm right now. The weather is on, and I saw the town name pop up for a tornado warning.

His owner texted my mom and sent her pictures of Lenny with his 9 year old owner. They looked very happy, which made me cry 😅 I’ve not been to the barn since he left. I’ll go next week. The only reason I’ve not been there is because one of my teachers didn’t put grades in until the other day, so my grade was not the best. And today I was supposed to ride, but with the storm, I just the SLIGHTEST feeling that I won’t be…
Here is weather and horse tax: Splotch wanting peace to lay an egg.

And here is a picture of Lenny with his young owner: Just because I don’t like her, I’m just gonna say that she is holding the lead rope wrong.
