It's a front-opening tank actually! That's why I thought it would work out better than a big rubbermaid tote
Be prepared for those quick babies to jump out as soon as that door opens. I used to put down a very large thick comforter to cushion the floor if we were holding chicks in case the little buggers jumped unexpectedly. Barriers mean nothing to them ~ chicks can jump high & far for not having any wing feathers yet! Your aquarium w/ the ventilated screen looks nice plus see-thru!

Weights

Pepper-Larry is 5.63lb

Mr LC is 2.15lb heavier than I thought.

But Shirley only weighs in at 8.26lbs! I would have thought for sure he was at least 10lbs!

Shorley is young still ~ chicken weights as we know fluctuate as they get older & whether they just got a full crop or not. Stripe birds are the best. Blue are my prettiest. Black has grown on me. All other varieties are beautifully intrigueing.

I use shingle pieces on the wooden steps on the deck, yep can’t shovel with those on the steps.

Now what I do is throw down shavings on the wooden steps, they freeze onto the steps making some traction to walk on.

Did I mention I hate winter?

Love the red hens ~ wish it was a Silkie accepted SOP.

I cannot stop Georgie from being broody. She just won’t quit. And now it’s cold she doesn’t want to come off the nest box for sure!

I haul her off morning and night, she fills up on food and marches back to her nest, at night she nests with Red in Hen House B, she has no issue with being plopped into any old nest box. And everyone wants to give her an egg - brat!
She went broody when Poppet started - what’s that now 6 weeks? What is it with them all this year?!

I swear if I could get chicks I would give her 2 just to get her off that nest!

I told her just wait if you go broody this summer you’re getting 2 light Brahma - and that will look funny! They will be bigger than her by 3 weeks old hahaha.
If she started when Poppet started then yes your right. She has been at it 6 weeks. Silkies, I love them, but they are determined little heathens when it comes to broodiness. I broke Poppet on her first attempt which was almost 4 weeks. You see how she repaid me by really hiding. Chiquita, shew. Chiquita broke me and I gave her chicks after 5 weeks. She was starting to loose condition and something had to give. She either got chicks or she would have kept on and killed herself.

I would wait until first of March at least.

The lady who got Rosario was asking for eggs to hatch, I told her I would give her some in the spring, I’ll give her a bunch of blue and green/olive ones 😊♥️ I’ll give them to her first of March.
Feel free to forward a picture of George to her. She may want to try that cross. Be forewarned, if she tries it and gets a white frizzle pullet I will curse the chicken gods. Out of earshot of George mind you. He is perfect. Still, white frizzle pullet could have happened.

I'm careful! I have yaktrax for icy conditions ☺️ Plus my boots have good traction. A good layer of packed snow with a thinner layer of new snow is perfect for walking around here

Heheh I love winter...

As a plus, the run is (almost) winterized!

It's nice in there and all, but they miss free ranging.

Maybe her eyes are turning green because she's jealous that I get to go outside?

They're all dealing with it, in any case!
Green eyes, blue, hazel, odd-eyed ~ all gorgeous favourites to me!

These juvenile blues seemed eery to me at first cuz I thought all chicken eyes were black or orange.

I know you love all the Brahma color varieties ~ is Light Brahma the only available Brahma in your area? Of course any Brahmas should be good hens but I think you were drooling :drool over some unique ones? I pray the 2 chicks she hatches won't both be roos Have you ever dealt w/ shipped hatching eggs? I never could do it w/ our restricted ordinance.

Looks like some conjunctivitis, and who knows sometimes what causes it.

But looks like the ointment is doing the trick. My horse Sally had chronic conjunctivitis which would flare up every now and then. Mostly related to her Uveitis (moon blindness in horses). It’s ultimately why I had to put her down, she had a bad episode of sudden blindness. She was panicking and a danger to herself and others.
I'm so sorry Kelly :hugs:hugs
