Here's a pic I took the day before yesterday. She stood still for a long time. Maybe wondering if any treats were going to go along with my phone. She watched it carefully. I love seeing those beautiful breast feathers!

Mice can climb. Anything with a slight texture they can manage. They are masters at it and practically rappel up and down walls. So they could be coming in from anywhere, I'm afraid . You might set some traps along any high rafters and near the roof vents, and see what you get. They love peanut butter, that might outrank chicken feed in desirable food....

Oh yes I see them climbing all over on the cameras at night. I have cameras pointing up and pointing down - I am determined to find their entry points! I think I have become unhealthily obsessed!
So far peanut butter covered in scratch which was I think @Kris5902 suggestion has been the best bait so far and in the 'zapper' I use cat food kibble because it is dry - but so far that has only caught one rat. It is also the only rat I have seen so I am not complaining!

Oh yes I see them climbing all over on the cameras at night. I have cameras pointing up and pointing down - I am determined to find their entry points! I think I have become unhealthily obsessed!

Good heavens! I don't suppose Cousin's Husband helped with the damage control either did he? (Sorry, I'm being a bit Judgy McJudgeFace here. I am outraged on your behalf having to manage problems not of your making)

How have they managed to make a living on that farm? They all sound completely incompetent!

Cousin in law’s husband returned on the late boat Saturday for fire watch, was out on the mid morning ferry Sunday. It was still smoldering Sunday morning when DH left despite torrential rains... as to running the farm I really don’t know. Just have to sit tight for a decade then I can maybe make things better.

Yes!!! We accidentally watched the newest one “Legends of Arcadia” I think it was first, it’s an interesting spin off on Arthurian legends, of a sorts. Sadly we only have 73G of data a month...

I’m tempted to upgrade my phone and get a few more “free” Gigs with the upgrade, but our cell bill is pretty extravagant already. Almost $500/month now for the three lines, and Shared data. If we can get internet out here it might be worth the infrastructure expense... my phone battery is not holding charge very well anymore though (iPhone 7+) so that’s a tempting option

A while back we were talking transport. Some very nice cars came up in converstation.

We will call it a Bobber... and that just ups your cool factor Shad. You’ll have some young chicks grooming you in no time I’m sure! Does it run? Yes, Then it’s all good. I’m on the two feet and a heartbeat transportation method far too long now. Our friend is now winning the vehicle count with 1 and 1/2 working vehicles, we are at 1/2 out of 4.

I will trade you... I’ll take the rodent problem and you can have my cow infestation... I love them, but they are making mornings impossible! Just a few more days and I will be kicking them out of here!

I have to say, though, I think I have a good pasture recovery/improvement plan going. First graze the cows to knock down the greenery to a reasonable height, then run the chickens intensively for fertilizer and weed control (they love 2/3 of the worst of the weeds here) then run the cows again feeding hay, which re-seeds the pasture with desirable grasses and adds organic material to increase loam and water retention.
