I am a little jealous I admit, I would have no idea where to start. My best friend is a carpenter but with young families it’s very hard to find the time to coordinate for a build at any point. Maybe one day down the track...
I mainly worked out the design. My dad is an engineer and is helping a lot on making sure the build is stable.

Alex were you serious about taking your chickens for a walk, like on a harness? I only ask because I have seen those chicken harness things sometimes at rural king. Me and Rosie have joked before that we need one and surely we could train one of our to use it. I have just been afraid that they would freak out and hurt themselves. But if it can be done safely, next time I see one I will pick one up.
My niece and nephew have successfully put a couple of their chickens in harness, but their chickens are extremely used to being handled/raised by children so that probably helps.

Yes serious. It doesn't hurt the chickens if worn correctly. I only walk the birds, where there are no dogs around. (That would frighten them) I have a park close by.

Thank you fuentemoon and Alex. Next time i see a harness will pick one up. With the majority of my flock as friendly as they are I think any of the Marans would be a good candidate to try it on. Will probably have to have my pockets full of cranberries to use to train them. My neighbors already think of me as the crazy chicken lady. I think walking Drumstick would solidify that opinion.

Success!

We have an egg and Lilly is fine! :wee:woot:yesss:

Her eggs are so pale that this one looked white in the nest box. She used to lay very pretty brown eggs. Not Maran dark brown mind you but legitimately brown. This one is also long and pointy. Her normal egg was much more round. It's funny how age affects their eggs. I am just sort relieved that she was able to deliver successfully. The yard is also quiet right now. No more continuous bawking! 🤣

Trying to grab @MaryJanet so she knows.
Look how she is looking at her egg. I think she is pleased with herself.

So this egg was on the coop floor under Ester this morning. It is shaped like her eggs. It would be the first egg from her in weeks AND the darkest egg she’s ever laid. Her first egg cycle started with pale eggs and got lighter from there all the way to white. I’m hoping this is the start of a new, healthy, normal egg cycle.

Always great news! That's a pretty color all right!
