And I guess this question can be asked of the group at large about the prefab coops...has anyone had luck with one lasting a couple of years? We bought ours from the Chicken Coop Company bc it was made in US, wood and wire with extra support under nest boxes. I'm sure hoping it doesn't turn into a pile of kindling prematurely!

I cant help but remark that while the pictures of your chickens are lovely, as are the chickens, one would not describe them as cuddly looking.
I have a similar not paricualry friendly lot here. I have to work very hard to make them look anything but complete lunatics and savages.

It's true...I force them to cuddle. I figure it is equivalent to teen years where they act like they hate the attention but need to know they are loved.

Before we got Snow and Belle I looked at pics of frizzles and me and Vi had a good giggle at how cute they look

The long story is that my husband chooses weird names out for naming children. While pregnant with my youngest, he had a lot of suggestions.
Like Socrates, Archimedes, Platyhelminthes... I cannot even remember the other things he offered up, it was all so bad.

The least awful was Allele, and to nip any other awful suggestions said if a girl, he could name. If a boy, I would name.

We never did have a daughter, so he was excited to name a chicken Allele.

The short story is that an allele is part of a gene.

He is a scientist and a lovable dork.
