I have a nesting box problem.
Sorry for the long video. This is Maggie repeatedly hauling Dotty out of the nesting box. This pattern repeated every 20-30 mins throughout the day.
- the box in question is not one Maggie has ever used (it is the one Dotty uses)
- Maggie never went in a nest box all day except to eject Dotty.
- Dotty didn’t lay an egg.

I am not sure what to do. I am considering adding a lidded kitty litter tray to The Chicken Palace as an alternative nest box area. Or should I just let them sort it out?

Oh and while I am sharing my chicken woes here is the ugly egg Diana produced the other day

This looks like the 'wrinkled egg' in this article (nearer the bottom), supposedly can be caused by stress (or infectious bronchitis, but you would know if she had that). Has Maggie been harassing them both at lay time?

Hey all!
Just another drive by posting from yours truly...I've been reading the posts in between all life's busy moments, but haven't got much time to spare for responses as they deserve. Know that I am reading and am feeling the joy and the pain and everything that comes with each of your pieces of life you've generously shared here. ❤

I have no major news to share except that Pingu managed to miss getting into the coop one evening before the automatic door closed. That was a first and hasn't been repeated. I do wonder if she had a BFF (poor girl is a loner) to keep an eye on her if she would have made it in time.

The other news is that it is chilly here, so tonight we are running the brooder plate (converts to a side standing heater) in the coop.
The girls are NOT molting (under 1 year) so we're not contending with that like so many others are. But the coop is big and they space away from each other sometimes. Anyway...I hope they are clever enough to snuggle up!

To my US friends - wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday!
All my other friends - wishing you and yours happy chicken-y days!

No Maggie would never harass Diana. It is only Roadrunners she goes after and at the moment really only Dotty. I fear Diana is just having some sort of reproductive issue. She is an ISA Brown who is already past her expected productive time.
:(

I just went out to get some pics of the many pairs of friends I have. Technically with the cochin girls you wont find them split in pairs, unless one is laying where you find one, you find all 6.

Pickles is the girl with the bald spot on her head. the other 2 who were completely bald have fully regrown their missing head and neck feathers. I've inspected pickles and while she regrew most back, she was the worst one and looked like a naked neck when she arrived and I do not think any more will grow back, too much damage was done.
Next pair of BFFs is Creamy and Squirrel. These 2 used to not hang out together at all, but when both of them started laying within day's of each other they have became their own unit. I actually love this because even though Squirrel was broody raised and Creamy was brooded by myself, they are actually full siblings and my 2 Butter daughters.

Then of course we have the Double Trouble twins.

Finally we have the silkie group who were all hanging out together. When they do break apart the girls hang out while Branch and Bubba patrol as a unit.
