No, they were climbing on a large pine...at just about eye height (one was scared & nestling in a branch notch about 15' up) the other one kept wanting to come down the trunk....scurrying around it...to my height, then scooting up, then scurrying down...it was so magical of a moment!:celebrate
Are they digging under the coop to get at chicken feed? I can't see why they would be going in there by way of the ground. They are cavity-dwellers, we've had them occupy a certain bluebird box that was attached to a telephone pole, chewing the entrance hole to make it a little bigger. I let them have that one. I don't think of them as predatory / carnivorous the way the red squirrels are, but I don't really know. They could certainly chew their way into a wood or plastic coop if they wanted to. They are insanely cute, and their fur is beautiful.

Yes, I think they were after chicken food. I keep it in the open wire part of the coop (not the 'formal' coop) My 'coop' has a 4X8 footprint. @ 3' height, 1/2 is enclosed for proper coop. Not the best photos, but this is what I have

Hahaha I used to be mean to citiot, but then one day I was downtown Toronto and lost my car in the underground parking at First Canadian Place building..... Huge facilities... They asked me 'what letter and number' I was parked at..... ?

I told them I didn't know, that there were no cedar trees or Holstein cows so what did I know for land markers??!!

We eventually found the car, at J 22 hahaha. And that dear people was how learnt the value of numbers and letters when parking anywhere!
I had a similar occurrence parking at that huge mall in Edmonton. Walked for 30 minutes looking for my rental car.

Sorry, I was using "coop" loosely and also interchangeably, thanks!
